Mysterious silence of the TRW SPFs

Am I asking a question too dumb to be answered? Three different forums, PMs, etc, all asking simply where do the minor lettering decals go on the GHQ R50b kit -- and zero replies. All I want to know is where the "Lettering in this box can used in any lettering scheme" markings go.

My guess would be that they are all busy running their K-4s and M-1s.  If there were recently released ATSF 2-10-2s or Hudsons, I would probably be too busy myself.

Not sure I can be a lot of help, but in the photo below, what I take to be the service date data (even under my magnifier, I can't read the smallest type on the decals) is in the lower left corner (also shown on the sample on the sample photo on the lettering thread in this position).

Air tank data is on the air tank itself.

Trust plate data- truth be told, I had to look up what a trust plate is, and no idea where it is placed.

I think the wheel data goes on the ends of the car, and that photo shows none of the other data the sheet has. Just confusing ... :?

Careful, you almost sound like an entitled millennial!

When I saw your original post, I thought to myself "I have no idea what he is talking about, but why can't he just compare his decal sheet to prototype photos on Google image and model from an actual photo instead of the other way around via decal sheet? It's going to rain in 2 hours and I need to ride my damn bicycle before the rain destroys the trails." Then I put my bike on the rack and my phone in my pocket and stopped checking TRW.

In short, speaking for ALL SPFs, we either don't know or are don't have the time to research it for you. I don't spend ALL of my time in the basement (it's a 50/50 split with Ed's closet).

Far from an SPF #teampearlman  :D but can you post a picture of the lettering? Possibly back lit so it is a little bit more clear.

Trust plate data would be added to the side of a car either along the roofline or along the frame. It also would be removed once the car was paid for or during a shopping just cause... so best to check photos for that.

as Thomas stated air tank data was painted right on the brake reservoir (on modern cars this is some of the info put in the consolidated stencil)

Wheel data is placed on the ends of a freight car, however with passenger equipment it varies so once again prototype photos are ideal.

What other lettering is there?

(scroll to  the bottom) which is highly detailed as to era, type of lettering, but shows a picture of a model with none of the airtank data, service data, or wheel data (clearly marked on the  sheet as going with all lettering styles). The people who MADE this diagram didn't even do it right. I tried to find chicken45's pic of the reefer he did, but he must have pulled it from the photo host site. Why'd he do that?
So yeah, if the people who made up this kit and the decals had done a thorough job and shown all data placement I wouldn't be asking these dumb questions. Blame them.

Looking at photos the Trust plate is on the left side of the car under the grab irons. (On the sheet trust plates are the lower "horizontal" rectangle) as I said many were removed so the later your era the less likely you would see one.

Also air tank data would be on the main reservoir of all cars by law before 1972. (being said this is a tiny detail in N)

As for the Wheel data and the service dates I cannot find an online photo showing them applied to a car. I think you could omit them...

He'll tell you why. Because he hates the world and the world does not deserve to see his modelling. Bow, you peons! HE IS THE SECOND COMING OF MANN!

The actual reason is likely "because he needed more space on Dropbox" or "Facebook knows he's hotlinking his pictures."
He probably hasn't fixed them because he would rather spend time with his child and wife (and bicycles) instead of sweating the small stuff like broken image links.  :trollface:

You gotta remember you old CRHS guys are the only ones keeping the Pennsy memories alive here, otherwise they'd just fade away.  Especially for people who live far from the Pennsy stomping grounds and RR museums. You either have the data or know where we can find it, and it's very helpful for the rest of us it can be accessed through or looked up on TRW when needed. If you don't think that's a big deal, well, OK.  :(

As for the R50, it looks like most of that extra data wasn't on the cars, at least for my era. I suppose if I cake it up with as much grime as they seemed to have in the '50s you'll hardly be able to even see the large lettering. So now I can dullcoat it and get it rolling in my NH trains. This info quest was a long trip around the back way, but at least I got there.
