Another Micro-Nano 0201 LED Line Announced

Mostly for Pete, but I know there are dozens of you out there just itching to try your hand at soldering wires to flea specks:  :D

  http://www.kingbrightusa.com/category.asp?catalog_name=LED&category_name=KC0201%20Chip%20SMD-0.6X0.3MM

Come to think of it, flea specks are bigger. As are grains of table salt.

Mouser carries the Kingbright line. This announcement was dated 7/7, so it's unknown when they'll be ready for retail ordering. The 0201 LEDs we discussed in the NSE Convention thread are made by SunLED and carried by Digikey.

As Pete pointed-out in the other thread, 0201 LEDs are a scale 1.5" x 3". This makes it possible to use an LED in things like marker and switchstand lanterns for each lens. That is, if your micro-soldering skills are up to the task.  :o

How do they package them so you can find them? Held by static to a microscope slide? As someone who commonly looses MT coupler springs, I think this is just out of my league.

Surface-mount components like this are packaged in a special tape for use in automated equipment. There's no way a person could handle these in a production setting.

Fixed that for you.

LOL, even if I can doesn't mean that I would want to.  But I can jut see bunch of Chinese ladies doing just that and then selling pre-wired 0201 LEDs on eBay.  :D

Thank you for that link... I don't think I could even fantasize about soldering those...

To put the size into context 0.3mm is about the thickness of the aluminum of a coke can  :P Lol

0201 size LED footprint is 0.020" x 0'010" (so 0.3mm is roughly 0.010").  I would think that the Coke can (at least the side wall) would be a bit thinker than that.  But either way, those LEDs are really, really tiny!

RAILCAT,

thanks for the link. Can anybody translate enough to tell if the 10 listed are all white or are there two of each color in the listing? Are they a typical 3v foward and 20ma led?

10 pieces SMD LED 0201 red / yellow / pure green / blue / orange on the wire
Size: 0.65 mm x 0.35 mm Height: 0.2 mm - Leaded with Küpferlackdraht(?) 0.1mm - positive red wire, minus blue wire.

Technical specifications:
RED: 2V / 10mA - 631 nm wavelength 35 mcd brightness
YELLOW: 2V / 10mA -589 nm wavelength 30 mcd brightness
ORANGE: 2V / 10mA - 611 nm wavelength, 100 mcd brightness
BLUE: 3V / 5 mA - 467 nm wavelength, 25 mcd brightness
PURE GREEN: 3V / 5 mA - 527 nm wavelength, 80 mcd brightness

The colors can be mixed

Please operate the LEDs never without matching resistor!

There is no indication of how the colors are "managed". When there's a choice like this, there's usually a pop-up that lets you pick. This is too-experienced of a seller to not know that, or know how to do it. So my guess is it's a package of 10, 2 of each color.

Regardless, that's a great price for some really hard work (and lots of "loss") if I were to try this myself. :scared:

I'm not a German speaker but that sounds like Küpfer (copper?) lack (lacquer or enamel?), so that sure sounds like enameled copper wire (aka. magnet wire in U.S.).  Probably a technical jargon term, which auto-translators have problem dealing with.
