New Vehicle Models at the National N Scale Convention

I will get this thread started with some vehicle models I saw during the "room sales" at the National N Scale Convention this evening.

Peter Harris of N Scale Kits had some examples of a cast resin M1A2 Abrams military tank that can be used for flat car loads.

Peter also had examples of his new 53-ft containers on display.

Neal Carnaby of Neal's N Gauging Trains had three etched brass Ford Model T kits.  The kits include a pickup, a touring car and a delivery van.

I think you'll find Peter is displaying models from "N Scale Laser" who have released a 53' container with an in-built Carrier reefer unit and offer decals for it in ISO ocean-going shipper schemes:

http://www.nscalelaser.com/shop/n-scale/n-030-53-carrier-reefer-container-double-stack/

I haven't seen such a thing in person, and I'm not aware at the likes of Maersk etc have them, but found this just now:

Hi,

I do have the Oceanex decals as an option. The others were added following requests from fellow modellers. There are a few other operators out there using integrated carrier reefer units too.

James,

Thanks for the clarification.  I was not writing down notes, so Peter probably told me more, and I did not remember all he said.   :)

7/1/2016 Update

Trainworx is now offering the parts to build your own trucks.   :D

Pat is also showing the artwork for more 53-foot dry van trailers, and the artwork for the first six milk tank trailers.

And, Pat was displaying the computer renderings (designed by his son Lane) for a Timpte grain trailer that has an alternate suspension to allow for the model to be configured as the very similar Wilson grain trailer.  Two different prototypes from the same tooling!

Really cool stuff!

Other threads have reported the three new Showcase Miniatures trucks as well as the Jahn 3D models on display, so here are "pictures" of the computer rendering of the Timpte grain trailer.

I bought parts to make a couple of KW T800 dump trucks, but I need to get home to build them.  Hopefully I will have photos of those in a few days.

Where do you buy the Trainworx truck parts?  Or are they a convention-only item so far?  I looked at the Trainworx website and couldn't find them...

Carter

Did you get the sense that the parts were going to be in lieu of actual releases of built up Dump and Log trucks?
Do you think that all cab options to date and in the future will be available as kit parts?

Bryan,

Built up models will be available.  The parts are for those of us too impatient to wait for the ready to run versions.   :D

When I have more time to study the catalog Pat gave me at the convention, I will be able to post more information.  The KW T800 cabs were in light blue, red, yellow, green, purple and burgundy.  I am not sure if those colors are indicative of a future release or not.

Pat did not have any Peterbilt 379 cabs available, or I would have bought one Pete and one T800.

They will be available direct from Trainworx, and hopefully some hobby shops as well.

Interesting, but I am sure the ready to run versions from Trainworx will be available at a lower price.  While I have not had the opportunity to start constructing my trucks yet, here is the list of parts Pat "packaged" for me to build a T800 dump truck.

Decorated cab kit
Dump box
Frame for dump truck
Steer tires and axle
Dual rear wheels and axles
Walking beam suspension
Fuel tanks
Engine
Dual exhaust stacks
Air horns

The list price of the above parts totals around $31.00.  About the only thing you could get by without is the engine, but that only adds a little over a dollar to the total cost, so why leave it out.   :)

When you total the list price of the parts to build a Peterbilt 379 like the FedEx Ground tractor, you get approximately the same total.  My guess is the MSRP for the dump trucks will be in the same ballpark as the MSRP for the FedEx Peterbilt.

I sure hope the announcement for the dump trucks will come soon, because I am going to need a fleet of them.  Also, some of the parts are really small, and building the truck is going to take some time!
