Trouble Posting Photos from Google

So why is the address 4 miles long?

Think of it as a visible password.  It sounds like people were able to dig for photos they weren't supposed to see by typing URLs so Google came up with this.

Now for your next assignment figure out how to get thumbnails at Google Photos instead of the random multi-sized shot gun blast that they show. It takes forever to scroll down an album to find a photo. Where before it was very easy.

Assuming this holds on, I just made sure of two things.  First, the image is in an album.  Google Photos allow you to upload images without putting them in an album.  I just did it and now I can't even find the picture I uploaded. 

The second is to make sure the album is shared by going to 'albums' and selecting the one you're using and going into the 'sharing options' and turn on 'share'.  I then turn off the other stuff in the next window.  If you have any albums from the old Picasaweb, it might say it's shared but still go through the steps because  when I clicked the share options on those, it wasn't really turned on.

Thanks.  The image in question was in an album and the album said it was shared, but I guess that was not enough.  I went to "sharing options" and explicitly enabled album sharing again, then reposted.  It's working for me again now, after refreshing my session.  We'll see if it holds.

I guessing that's the step that's giving so much trouble as  I can now see the pic you posted in the other thread.

Sorry for the spam.  This time I created a brand new shared album with this image as the first item in it:

Thanks Chris.  Now it is working for me after signing out of all sessions, clearing cookies, and rebooting my machine, so hopefully this sticks.  If so, perhaps the key was to have the album sharing properties established before adding the photo to the album?  My earlier attempt was linking to the image within an album that was migrated from Picasa.  I (re)set the sharing options on that album after I linked the photo to that album.

Try adding "-tmp.jpg" instead of "?.jpg".

So now I'm going to go against everything I said and try something different.  Like the "?.jpg" trick that was mentioned before, you can add "-tmp.jpg" to try and get a link.

The following photo has no album.



And this is from a photo in an album that isn't shared.



Both photos are also using the old Picasaweb "s800" (or whatever) for sizing as well.  There's also other flags you can use instead of the "-no" at the end.  All of this came from this page.

This might all seem like a pain, but the good part could be that any of this could be easily implemented into Photos if Google wanted to since it's already here programmatically.  The downside of course is that it could just stop working at any time.

Let's see what happens.
