The SW1500 had a much higher deck than the SW1001, plus the mechanism requires pickup pads to be mounted to the shell... not fun.

Makes sense.

New truck sideframes for the Kato NW2 would fix that problem...and would be useful for anyone that wanted to build a modernized/rebuilt NW2 with roller bearings...

Few people reported slipping gear on the Kato units, but overall, I would say it is like a Bentley compared to a Chevy.  No comparison, really.

On DC, my Kato NW2 has high startup speed, compared to Bmann right out of the box. Don't think I have the slipping gears. Have not run it in quite a while. Was thinking of repainting to CNJ.

Hood width is the same as the Kato NW2

Why not the MTL SW1500 chassis?   It's the only one that comes with roller bearing equipped AAR-A trucks...

On this note, why not the LL/Walther's SW1200, being its the same mech, but the SW has pick up strips. And the MTL truck sideframes will fit the trucks.

Can the long hood be used with the cab and catwalk castings of the SW1500 to make a SW1000?  Some popular roads had the SW1000... BN and DRGW come to mind quickly.

Oh man, the hood looks great. The cab, sadly, looks kinda Shapewaysey... but it can probably be "buffed out".

That isn't going to stop me from grabbing some shortly though.
