Hopefully this won't negatively impact the Campo museum.

I do find the assembly of 100 trains from 30 car trains only to travel 10 miles interesting.

Yes. U.S. Gypsum's operation. I saw it once in the early 1980s, but not in action. At the time they were running 6-axle jackshaft Plymouths, IIRC. Currently they're running three former White Pass & Yukon Alcos.

That sounds like it could be an interesting place to model, if someone wanted a modern layout with variety.

Chuck Geiger did a layout based on this area years ago......great layout !!  His modeling of the desert was spot on.

There are two fantastic versions (in HO and N) of the SD&AE at the San Diego Model RR Museum in Balboa Park. Both layouts get overshadowed by the La Mesa club's Tehachapi layout, but are fantastic in their own rights.

Those Bombardiers are quite interesting... they were built for the WP&Y in 1982, but never ran there.  USG bought them a decade later...
