It appears that J. Young Jr. has placed many of his father's? horseshoe Curve pics into a Flickr account here.  I believe it is public, but I have a Flickr account...

Gorgeous shots of the curve, and excellent photography! I was initially a little disappointed with the just-post-PC-merger equipment, and then out of nowhere, BAM, 460 under steam: https://flic.kr/p/GKaANT Very nice! It was also nice to see shots of 1361 in one piece, even if she was stuffed and mounted.

I love the variety of motive power back in the late 1960s and early 1970s that just seems to be lacking nowadays.  In addition to four- and six-axle units, hood and cab units, I even spied a GP9B on the Curve in those photos.  Awesome.

Which is why I model that era. Lots of Alco goodness, too. I especially loved the shot of the SD45 leading a pack of Fs - F-units were all but gone on Western roads when the SD45 hit in '66, and what were left were dedicated to passenger service, so didn't mix. There was a pic with an Erie-Built, tho' I suspect it was from an earlier time than most of the shots, which were proximate to the PC merger.

OMG, the LV, D&H, and EL folders are deep happiness.  Perfect era and location and excellent photography.  The only thing that could make it better is color, but that's what imagination is for.

Look at the GN and NP.  Both had SD45s and sizable rosters of Fs.  While both dedicated Fs to passenger service while it lasted, and while such lash-ups weren't every day, there are good number of pics to prove neither road was too proud to raft first and second gen together to cross the Cascades and Montana; the pics just aren't that common online.

Heh. You're right. So replace "Western roads" with "SP, UP and ATSF". :D

Heck... I even have a slide somewhere from a trip to Washington, on the ex-SP&S with a BN C636 leading a couple of F-units in 1979. I'll have to dig into the collection.

Heck, look at BN, they were running Fs into the early 80s. Want to say the Fs were retired from road service by 81, and the 45s were retired 86/87 on BN.
