Ebit's idea was made from Pb, and gave a larger contact area for CA. It mounted in middle of sill, avoiding those indents that cause originals to deform/fall off.

Contacts made from Lead?  Really?!  My idea (if I ever get to *THAT* project is to use thin strips of thin PC board material super-glued under the sills. Then solder springy metal leaves to contact the trucks and then figure out a way to positively connect those PC boards to the chassis (maybe hidden in the fuel tank area).

Hmm... I thought Pb
meant particle board...

Two scientists create a teleportation ray, and they try it out on a cricket. They put the cricket on one of the two teleportation pads in the room, and they turn the ray on.
The cricket jumps across the room onto the other pad.

Would there be a way to make contact strips on these like you would have a normal split frame designs?

I think it's simply a matter of how to attach the contact strips to the frame. Most split frame chassis provide a (conductive) slot in the area of the fuel tank for the contact strips to slip into and is what holds them in place. Absent these slots, one has to engineer an attachment method of some type.

No, not lead. Thought Pb was phosphouros(?) bronze. Just as an abreviation.

Well then,  using a full name would have been much clearer. Phosphor-bronze is an alloy. "Pb" (specifically with upper-case P and lower-case b) is a chemical symbol for lead.

Can you wire the motor directly to the trucks?  Think the n scale dark ages.

...and if you add a "J",  then you have an alloy known as  Peanut butter and Jelly.    :D

Of course, Miss Dee might prefer peanut butter and banana...

True, but those would be all caps like PBJ (not PbJ).  ;)

Hopefully Russ can find that brass contact strip and just acc it back in place, but if not, thats the way to go.
The one handling my yard chores is hardwired (thanks Ray).  Its been working great for years that way...  and more reliable for slow speed switching too.

What is meant by conductor railings?  I think I have some but I'm not sure which railing you are referring to.

I was lucky to order a few parts right before Life-Like was bought out by Walthers, when I heard about the contact strips coming off.

I reinforce all of the contact strip mountings on mine with JB Weld two-part epoxy.  You can remove and install the sill many times without them falling off.  I also re-stake all of the mounting areas with a soldering iron before applying the epoxy.

I will use Spookshow's website for reference photo, but on the C&O unit at top, the railing in the green circle.  Somewhere I seen these referenced as conductor railing so that's what I call them  :D
