wpsnts,
find a copy of RP CYC 4 for a great look at trucks until the
early 50s.
RMJ and MM have also run truck spotting articles over the years.
BARBER Trucks:
they didn't cast their own trucks, members of the 4 Wheel Truck
Association did, then paid Patent and Design Royalties to the
"Standard Car Truck Company".SCT was a Design Firm run by
Mr Barber until He passed on,so not sure who runs them now,or
if the Barber Family sold out sometime in the past ?
this is why there is so much variation in Barber trucks of the same
weight classes.
ASF markets a version of the Barber Super Duty 125 Ton Truck now.
firms that have cast Barber designs in the past include:
Scullin
ASF
PSF
National
Buckeye
Ohio Steel Foundries
Symington-Gould
Bettendorf didn't seem to cast actual Barber S-2 designs, but they did
add the S-2 Wedges to AAR-trucks until ceasing production about 1943.
Birdsboro Foundry
will add others as they are recalled.
