Thank you Bob! That was a great post. I have contacted them about 56 and 80 meshes, I'll report back what they say.

Have you contacted Intermountain about getting replacement grills?  I lost some FT grills when I was repainting a set and they sent me some free of charge.

so,
with Bob's research, this screen, with its .8mm openings, might be perfect for your needs...and it replicates actual chicken wire...

OI just did a Google search for "fine stainless steel mesh" and a lot of places came up.  I chose http://www.ssmesh.org/stainless-steel-wire-mesh-weaving/ultrathinssmesh.html because they were in the USA

Um, so much for the USA part. I just went to that website and the address under contact info is East industrial Zone, Anping, Hebei, China.  :|
II still asked them if they have a distributor/retailer in USA.  We'll see what they say.

Does anyone have a suggestion for a finer diagonal grill material? I'd like to finally be able to finish this project...

Neal Carnaby of NGaugingTrains has very fine mesh brass etched fencing. He is opening his new store in Staunton IL very soon, but often around the train shows. He will be at the NSE Convention in Kansas later this month, and will post his contact details if required! PM for some specific details - but I shall be heading there over the pond today on my way to the N Scale Convention too, so I may not be able top reply immediately.

I hope that this helps.

Peter

Thanks Peter, but if it is the same fencing I bought from him few years ago it is anything but fine.  The mesh is way oversize, even for representing chain-link fencing (and way oversize for the chicken wire).

Maybe IM has some as spare parts.
Just a thought.

Update: Disregard this post. I just saw the post suggesting this. Can't say I didn't try though.
