It must be.

I took off the boiler yesterday, and I see there is a metal tab that I believe would function as the electrical contact for the smoke unit.

I read somewhere (probably here), that these smoke units will deposit an oil-type residue while operating, so I am happy mine is a smoke-free steam engine.

Boy, this thing sure runs well...

The locos with a steam generator do also have a small on/off switch for the steam generator somewhere.

The smoke generator is definitely a separate part.

Thomas

Do you know if the smoke generator on the Arnold Class 18 is also separate?

I'm guessing that switch would be part of the generator itself; I do see a gap inside the running board where a small slide switch might be accessed...

Yes, the Arnold class 18 has a separate steam generator as well.

I went to that site to try and look at some of the documentation for the Arnold BR 41, but got a message saying the docs were too large, or something to that effect. (The "address" looked the same as the one you posted for the BR 18...)

Help? :?

I was able to successfully bring up the PDF file for BR 41.
http://www.arnold-ersatzteile.de/mediapool/60/605716/data/Eigene_Dateien_3/2510_Dampf_BR_41_DR.pdf

Instead of clicking on the link, right click on it and select "save link target as" then save the pdf to your computer's disk, then try to open it locally.

If you're still having problems, let me know which documentation you want so I could download it and send it to you.

Peteski and keeper

Was able to figure it out, thanks for the info and offer. Great site.

Now, on the something else: my V100 runs in reverse of all my other locos; I do know enough to know I have to "flip" the leads, but on this loco, there are contacts to the brushes; one appears to be grounded to the frame, the other has a wire connected to it, so I'm just not sure how to reverse the "polarity", or whatever you call it. (If you go to that Arnold site and look at the diagram of #2010, I think you'll see what I mean.)

Isn't your V 100 0201 (not 2010)?
The parts breakdown in http://www.arnold-ersatzteile.de/mediapool/60/605716/data/0201_D_BR_211.pdf is not very clear.  If flipping the motor is not possible, maybe swapping the trucks will do it?  Swap the front trucks to rear and rear to front.

You know I'm not sure... :?

I bought it as a "2010", but the case does say "0201". Looking at the diagrams, I can't see much of a difference; only in that some have that "simplex" coupler, which mine does not have.

I will swap the trucks (good idea) and see if that does the trick; I may have mistakenly swapped them when I first got it, and had to take off the trucks to clean everything...

Indeed, swapping the trucks front to back did the trick.

Thanks, guys.
