anyone seen a good weathered example?

I'm thinking there are thousands of cars parked right now while shipments are down and would be relatively easy to photo. In eastern PA, I've seen miles of cars along PA 61 north of Reading (RBM) and while cruising over to Gettysburg the other week to visit Adam (mu126aeh) noticed strings along US 30 east of York.

I model 1978 to 1980 but still got one of these this is such an awesome model, I hope the sales on this show manufacturers that good tank car models in N are in high demand and hence we may see a tank car of this quality that fits the 70s era.

Like I said, somebody...

That first train, BTW, are ethanol tankers.  The cars by BLMA are for crude oil.  There IS a difference.

As for storage, I'm betting they are storing the older cars first.  The cars represented by the BLMAs will be rolling, they're the new design and supposed to be much safer.

Ok.  Here's what I need to see before I purchase the DPRX white/black tankers.  Picture or video of the DPRX and TILX together in the same train.  Or, at the very least, DPRX in with some other black crude oil cars.  I can't find any.  I did see it once, but it was on an HO layout.  I don't think that counts!

These unit trains roll through my town on the NS Cleveland Pittsburg line and I always either see all white or all black ones in a train they're never mixed as far as I've seen.

These cars can be mixed as seen from our research.

(The car pictured is a WHITE TILX car, but the point is to show they get mixed...)

So, your suggestion is that I should buy some white/black DPRX cars too?

Definitely and he's not biased at all :D ...just wants you to have an extremely prototypical train!

Yes and No.

My point is that they DO get mixed-and-matched.  That said, it's your railroad; if an all black or all white train looks better, go for that.

Either way, this run was heavily oversold, so I'm sure Atlas will announce another production before too long.

Thanks for the support on this everyone!

Craig,

I knew you were formerly responsible for BLMA products. So, I was speaking in jest.

I'll probably wait a bit and pick up a few cars next month if they are still available or wait until the rerun.

Very much looking forward to running a crude oil train with the 24 TILX cars I ordered for the UPRR Geneva Sub.

Here is video of the cars @Blazeman was referring to near Gettysburg.  Cars are stored on every siding between Gettysburg and Mt Holly Springs.

I thought the cars were ethanol cars but still shows the cars get intermingled.  Just like the BNSF earthworm trains with the occasional grey CEFX car mixed in.

Just finished putting my 24 TILX tanks on the rails. They are very impressive and well worth the price. I've always thought of Athearn's ethanol tanks as the gold standard, but these take the cake. I sure do hope Atlas sees fit to do another run of 24, I'll double the size of my train.

But Athearn hasn't made it easy to put together a unit train like Craig did.  You might get ten of the same car and then they seem to produce only what I don't want.

Hopefully Atlas will continue the large multiple car runs.
