Transfer Table

  I picked up a Walthers HO Transfer Table at a train show yesterday for a very reasonable price. This was the plain early style kit without all the bells and whistles of the ready built one. Has anyone tried cutting one of these down to N scale? There was a thread on this way back in 2009, but it was dropped with no answer to the last question. I am wanting to model a downsized version of the UP Jenks Shop (space constraints), and right now dimensioning everything from pics of the shop and Google Earth photos. Just looking for some alternate ideas.

My brain just farted an idea .

Suppose the entire HO transfer table was under the roof of a gargantuan diesel house with just 2 or 3 doors open .
And suppose there were 2 , or more tracks on that transfer table if you widened it .
You could pull a 4 diesel lash up in for storage , select another track to line up with open door 1 , 2 , or 3 and pull that unit out .
CCTV cameras can be mounted inside over the doors that are open to be viewed by those split screen CCTV monitors which can view all or a full screen of a single input to get a bigger picture .

Bazaar idea , but no slicing or dicing needed .

One could minimize the outward look of it being all diesel house by the use of other facades for other buildings that abut with the diesel house , eg electric traction motor repair .......

  Yep, that one is bigger than the Jenks Shop table. I counted 15 tracks at Jenks. Looks like a pit of an old table to the southwest in the CSX picture. There is a smaller table on the west side of the Jenks Shop where they can pull thru and move to another bay. I figure about the time I mess around with cutting the HO table down and getting it to work, somebody will come out with a bonafide N Scale model.

There is/was an N scale transfer table.  IIRC, it was made by either Arnold or Minitrix.  Back in early '90s  one of the members of my local NTRAK club had an engine service facility module featuring that unit.  The owner would sit behind the module most of the day during shows and shuffle the engines using that transfer table. It was always a huge crowd pleaser.  I do recall the transfer table being really noisy (the motor and gears) and sometimes the bridge had to be lifted out and contacts cleaned.

I suspect these tables show up on eBay from time to time (but probably not very often)

There are many turntables and round houses available for N scale. But, it is now a diesel shop world.

Roll your own :
String drive N Transfer Table using a 120' turntable bridge. Utilizes a string drive as does my N-Scale funicular. Has a limit switch on each end of travel to prevent string breakage in case the controller loses control. Uses a multi-tasking Picaxe micro-controller to drive the table and blink the lights. The red flashing LED on the control board was the result of inputting an invalid track number.
