Trying Out Cutting Machine

My wife recently purchased a Cricut cutting machine (at least that's what they call it). For all the other things you can do with it, thought it may have a use expediting the creation of N scale buildings. I am planning on messing around with it this weekend and see if I can make something similar to this: https://www.therailwire.net/forum/index.php?topic=38188.0; I'll report back on what transpires.

Has anyone had any significant experience working with a Cricut, cutting machines, or a die cutter?

I used to cut out a small tower.





It did a good job with the brick.  The small vertical mortar lines aren't totally straight due to the swivel cutting head.  And since it doesn't remove material, it creates a ridge and causes the styrene to bow because of all the horizontal lines in the brick.

I've actually used my cutter more for my kids school parties than model trains.

Thanks for the links! I searched for "Cricut," but didn't think to search for the other brands. More homework before I cut anything...

We did purchase the heavy duty cutting blade, so I wonder if that will make a difference?

I'm wondering if pre-scribed styrene sheet would work for doing wood.
