Those MT clones aren't that great either. The clones on pretty much every Rapido car I own are junk, random uncoupling, difficulty coupling, etc, etc.

Genuine MTL couplers on Rapido models.

An easy way to check is to trim the trip pin off.  The genuine MTL are soft, the factory clones are hard.  If they wreck your Xuron nippers, they're clones.

What USUALLY happens is the plastic parts break, sending pieces in all directions, but sparing the nippers.

Or just carefully compare them to a known MT coupler. In my experience with MT clones (on IM's Cab Forwards), the clones clearly aren't as well made as MT. The surface is rougher and the engraving is not as crisp. There is also more flash around mold parting line.

So are these cars still in the rails in 2015-16, or have they suffered the same fate as the MT trip pins and been scrapped?
