Doors anyone by chance own a Fleischmann or minitrix BR52 2-10-0? I'd like to get a driver and wheelbase comparison to a kato mikado for a size comparison. Amy photos will be greatly appreciated! I'm attempting to make my steam builds a little easier.

I have few of them - give me couple of days and I can provide some photos and dimensions.

The center drivers have very shallow flanges (to decrease the distance between drivers to be as close to the 1:1 as possible).  These are all tender-driven (the loco is a free-rolling dummy).

This is also an excellent time to pick these up as the Euro/Dollar exchange is very favorable to us.  This new release goes for only 200 Euro.

I figured you'd reply Pete! These are technically 1:150 models correct? I'm really hoping the drivers are very close to 63" as its like to use these for my Santa fe and union pacific 2-10-2 builds since the kato mikado drivers are a hair too big and the engines are getting expensive. Also it'll be nice to not have to build the extended mechanisms! The proto is a 57" driver I believe.
Thanks ahead of time Pete!

No Adam, only Japanese N scale is 1:150 (because they depict narrow gauge trains on 9mm track). These German models are 1:160.  The drivers are fairly small.

The prototype drivers were 1400mm, or about 55"....

That's correct. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DRB_Class_52 . There is lots of info about these popular locos on the Internet.  I grew up in Poland living very close to the factory which manufactured these during WW II.  I used to walk right by the factory on my way to Grammar School.

Peteski, you da man! How come the parts diagram shows (2) different buffers? "Curved" and "Flat"?

Because each side of the locomotive uses buffer with a different face.  The way the are installed, when coupled to another piece of rolling stock the curved (domed) buffer is always against a flat buffer.  This is sometimes done on the 1:1 scale trains (the car on the left).

Quoting https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buffers_and_chain_coupler :

On German and Scandinavian railways, the left buffer is flatter than the right one, which is slightly more rounded. This provides better contact between the buffers than would be the case if both buffers were slightly rounded.

I see. That makes sense: I certainly never would have thought of it.

Thank you.

I'm hoping I can stick the mikado drivers into this chassis due to the wide spacing. I'd still like some photos if you can get around to it. It'd be even better if you could compare it to a kato Mike!
From the photos it looks like they just might fit.

I never noticed that they were different! Learn something new every day!

Sure, I'll do that.
But the BR 52 drivers are already very closely spaced. To accomplish that Fleischmann had to make the inside driver's flanges very small (smaller than the flanges on FVM wheels). So, there isn't much space between them to fit larger wheels.  Also, unlike Kato, the drivers use solid 1-piece metal axle riding in a bearing (hole) in a solid diecast chassis.

Ok. From the photos, they look like they are spread apart quite a bit.

Great photos. That certainly has a "lacy" look to it;nice model.

It appears to have only 2 driven axles, so I wonder how good a "puller" is it?
