It has been awhile since, I had any modeling time..

Just a few projects that I got to...

Frankenstein loco..
This is my version of a loco, that I remember seeing on the Wisconsin Central.  In the mid-1990s.  The original unit was a SBD GP40, that had been rebuilt with other parts.
I recently found a photograph of the loco on one, of the Prototype websites.
My unit is a rebuilt exNS  Hi-hood B23-7 with parts from Union Pacific, Conrail and Santa Fe B23s.
I actually did not cut off the hi-hood.  I used a stock Atlas B23-7 body and just masked-off the nose, when I painted the body NS Black.  I than did the reverse, to paint the nose UP Yellow.  The long hood was masked again to paint-on the Conrail Blue and UP Yellow..  I used my B23-7 references to set the placement of the decals on the mismatched doors.
It still needs a lot of weathering (rusting) and some other details...

The second is a Baby GEVO...

Ever since, I sold off my B18-7.  I wanted to try making a modern replacement for it.
Since, I had a few B23ES7 parts laying around, I figured that I would give a GEVO version a try.

I used the same parts, that I used to create my B23ES7s. But, in this case.  The Chassis is from an Atlas H15/16 44 loco.
Sill/walkway, cab and nose are B23-7 parts. And the long hood is a Atlas B32-8HW.

What's that? Mike actually did something this week?!? :o

So my first N scale set was a life like Little Joe set. The original locomotive is long gone but I've always wanted to rebuild one of the original 0-6-0t locomotives to run a little better. I've had two of them kicking around in a parts box for a while. And I have a few can Motors lying around, so I decided why not. It took a lot of work, the motor is far bigger than it really needed to be, for this loco, but it was what I had. It runs pretty good, But the Valve gear and pistons looked horrible. I replaced the pistons and the valve gear with a set from the Bachmann 0-6-0. Of course I also had to extend the coal bunker on the back, and the front of the cab, to be able to fit the motor. Overall I'm pretty happy with it, although I still got to figure out where I'm going to hide a decoder. And it also still needs headlight castings. He runs 100% better than when it had a stock motor. Overall, I'm pretty happy with it.

So cool.

Did that odd little GE at the bottom actually exist?

For the past few weeks I have been working on the Lemoray Quarry at Mile 611 on my BC Rail Chetwynd Sub. While not completely finished it is at the point where it has warranted a few photos. Here are a few of C425 812 backing out of the quarry with a load of ballast.

Very nice work this week everyone. Tim do you have enough track planned on your layout for all that work equipment?

Happy modeling
Chris

Hi Craig

Yes it is one of the Briggs kits on the Life-Like C-424. It was one of my first builds so it still needs to be upgraded with some detail work. I believe these were pretty prominent locomotives on the subdivision in 1988.

Take care,
Chris  :)

Man, that quarry is fantastic.  Very realistic.  I'm going to need to have something like that, so thank you for the inspiration.

I'm glad to see someone else modelling them. I've got a couple in line at the paint shop too. I love the lighting package.

Worked on my MT Royal American Shows heavyweights a bit.  Swapped out the couplers for MT z scale 905's, added FVM 36" metal wheels, and painted the journals yellow as per the prototype.  The carnival ran these heavyweights on their train until they left the rails in the late 70's.  Interesting to see heavyweights being pulled by 1970's motive power.  The paint job is pretty spot on with these.  Looking forward to getting the 72' flats that will be coming soon.

I've had a fairly productive week. Nothing on the B15, but a few other projects.

I got a bottle of Floquil "Natural" stain at Springfield, so I've been trying it out. I weathered one of a pair of Red Caboose flatcars, a good way of getting before and after in one picture.

I scrounged up a pair of Atlas 50T trucks and used them on the GHQ depressed center flatcar. It was still a bit high, so I filed off the bolsters. I need to strip and repaint it, I did a bad job ~10 years ago. But at least it's at the right height now.

Working on a B&M wreck train. The Tichy crane is a good starting point, so I'm doing the flatcar to go with it. Prototype: https://www.flickr.com/photos/bmrrhs/10409821555/in/dateposted/

I also did some layout conceptualization work. Build a model of the model to get an idea of how it will actually look. It's a much better way of doing things than just making a track plan. Add blocks of styrene for buildings, put in the hills and valleys, et cetera to really get a feel for how it will look.

Health problems have sidelined me (unexpected surgery specifically) but I have managed to get onto my laptop and start drawings for the Erie Stillwell car project.  I am looking forward to seeing this project when completed.

Craigolio1 -  No, GE does not have one it their books.
It is just a bit of Proto-Freelancing. On my part.

BCOL -  Nice ALCOs, lights and ALL.  Nice to see the BC Rail lives on!
