Nice depth of field on those images.     Were they taken with a Kodak Easy Share?   :D

Think Kato will offer these in ATSF paint schemes?

Watching the video, and he mentions the narrow nose section, for future notched nose versions.

Give it 5 more years.

(Will they tool a new shell for the notched noses, is the question.)

How quick did ATSF change the nose?

Did they put the locos directly into service after having them painted yellow and blue, or did the SDP40F undergo changes before they were put into service on the ATSF?

Does anybody know?

According to this wiki: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EMD_SDP40F

"In 1984, Santa Fe Railway traded lower-power locomotives to Amtrak for SDP40Fs, reconditioned under the name SDF40-2 for use as freight locomotives. They replaced the hollow HT-C bolsters with conventional HT-C bolsters, converted the below-frame combination fuel/water tank to an all-fuel tank, removed the above-frame water tanks (replacing these with concrete ballast) and used the engines for nearly 15 years."

Perhaps some Santa Fe fans can comment on this.

In the video they show the notched front to the chassis and say something about future tooling.

Um, couldn't you just make two cuts on each side of the hood and fill them in to make a notched hood for yourself?  Or is that too much modeling?

Cool!

That's what I get for not watching videos, and posting 5 minutes after you because something distracted me in the meantime.

They did something similiar with the tooling for the F40 too.  They notched slots for future ditchlight versions.  So, I'd say it's in the plans.

Also will need to add front handrails
