Another ICE.... ICETD that is....

It's the diesel version of the ICE3. They are currently operating between Hamburg/Berlin and Copenhagen or Arhus.
Unfortunately these trains will be taken out of service by 2017 or so.

This is on the ferry between Germany and Denmark.

I think we rode on the ICE-1 out of Interlaken. It was - OK. Seriously, I prefer the Acela for comfort. Speed was roughly comparable (averaging 110 MPH through the trip).

We took the original Eurostar:

Probably the fastest train we have ridden. When it hits the tunnel portal at full speed, the air pressure can actually hurt your ears.

The N'EX is a high speed train for those who don't like high speed trains. It averages about 80+ MPH from Tokyo (Shinjuku, Shibuya or Tokyo stations) to Narita Airport.

Robotic, flat faced and totally awesome. Its the polar opposite to the Shinkansen 500

I've had the opportunity to ride both original Eurostar trainsets as well as ICE 3 equipment and have to say that the ICE 3 was by far the finest train I've ever been on. At 350 km/h (thats 217 mph for you mph folk  ) it felt as smooth as glass.

Eurostar was the fastest train you have ridden?  You didn't have a chance to ride in any of the Shinkansen in Japan?

I had the pleasure to take Shinkansen between Tokyo and Shizuoka city in 2005.  It was a very smooth ride.  It seems that the passenger compartment is air-tight, but when 2 trains were going by each other there was a very distinctive rumble of air.

Comparing the ICE1 to the Acela is like comparing a 1980's Mustang to a new Mustang. The Technology has made leaps and bounds between 1989, when ICE 1 went in service, and 2000, when Acela went in service. Comparing the ICE3, Which entered service in 2000, would be a better comparison with the Acela.

I didn't realize that. The Jaoanese trains have a shape which looks like they are faster than the standard bullet-shaped nose of the Eurostar.  I guess looks can be deceiving.

I think America needs to get on the ball with high speed rail travel....
Sure is easier hoping on a train, than dealing with TSA at a freakin airport, and you aren't crammed into a seat smaller than a sardine can.... [/rant]

I'm still pondering if I should buy a JR W7 set from Kato or Tomix... I'm leaning towards Kato as I am most familiar with them...
And that N'EX train is badass looking.... I definitely want the Kato set...

A great shot on the ferry!  I took the ICE between Berlin and Hamburg two years ago and sat for an hour somewhere in between. DB gave me most of the fare back.

It's only mildly surprising, I suppose that nobody has posted this beautiful train.
Amtrak Cascades Talgo set that runs between Seattle and Portland.  It reminds me of Mader.

And not a bad ride, either. We experienced it for the first time last year and were quite impressed. It would be great if Amtrak rolled the concept out to other small-corridor runs.
