Atlas S2 switchers, 2nd release, now shipping to dealers

Well, I might have to wait for my undecs, but I broke down and ordered a  -dec; UP to be precise. It arrived today and I must say, I am very impressed with this Atlas baby. The light color scheme brings out the excellent details, the thin railings look very good, and the thing runs and sounds good straight out of the box. Well, It could generate a bit more rumble, the startup is a bit tinny, but it growls a little better upon acceleration. Maybe some speaker/enclosure tweaking, a la' John Colombo is in order...
I haven't yet tested it for pulling power, but it weighs in at a respectable 2.1oz./62 grams (compared to the well respected KATO NW2 with 1.8 oz/52 grams) so I suspect it will do okay for light switching duty I need it for.
Overall, I'm pleased. Frankly, I think we never had it this good

From what I've seen and heard, Atlas did a phenomenal job with this model. I really like the handrails.

Oh, I just realized I had placed a small Tungsten weight into my NW2 a while back, so the weight I quoted for it is wrong; the stock NW actually weighs a bit less. Thought I should correct it...

There is room between the bottom of the sound board and the worm gears to put some lead sheet and make the model even heavier.  Did it with mine; not sure exactly how much weight I added because I didn't do a before/after weigh-in.

Hey Bryan,

Thanks, for the question. First - I make a frame from .010 wire. Then I cut masking tape to fit (Super glue to the cab side and fold over the frame side - and super glue there as well). Paint them -- and, that's about it. Pretty easy - actually.
