As Tom hasn't announced one, I'll go ahead and do so.  I cannot promise a prize, but, at least we'll get good feelings.  As I am picking the subject, I shall abstain from this round.

Show us a flat car.

You have until 11 February to finish, voting begins on 12th February and the winner will be announced on 20th February.

I'm in.  I have a few Fine N Scale resin truss-rod flat car kits that need to be built.  My entry will of course be properly lettered for the Colorado Midland.

Technically, auto racks are flat cars, ya know. :)

Now this I can get into.

I can't support this unauthorized, grey market, challenge. :D  I'm going to start up a weathering challenge soon.  I just got a little bummed that another forum would produce their own weathering challenge, without even changing the name to something that sounds original.  I'm also bummed that only like, 10 people voted last time around.  Once I get out of my funk I'll figure out what to do.    I promise. :tommann:

I didn't even know voting started. Perhaps more press is in order. And a month in between challenges.

Yeah that was a pretty chicken ***** thing to do.  It was always funny that right after the car was announced here, there'd be a new thread over there about trying to weather that type of car.

I think you should go quarterly.  Not to necessarily announce and give people 3 months, but maybe with 5 weeks left announce the car so people can gather the materials over the first week, and then still have a month to work on it.

The inmates are taking over the asylum! So I'm not going to participate in this latest challenge since it's not official.
Not to put anyone down but I must say I found the last "weathering challenge" had a lackluster response with half completed entries with little presentation or effort except for the winner.
After seeing that, I wasn't sure if I wanted to participate on this forum.

Craig

When I first read this, it made me really upset. Especially the last part about it making you question TRW participation. But I understand what you're getting at with the first part.
There were not a lot of participants. But some participation is better than no participation. You also roll the dice on who has what car, and if they have the time to drop everything and start a new project. We can't hold guns to heads here, mang!
That being said, we are TRW. We should be pushing the envelope and advancing the medium here, and helping out folks along the way.

I really like the idea of announcing the contest a month in advance (for material gathering) Then you get a month to work on it, and 2 weeks to vote.

I was going to play but ended up using all my weekends on my other hobby...  skiing!  One of the hardships of living in Colorado.

I haven't started my entry yet, but I have everything ready at home for me to be able to start it and finish it in a couple days this week. Just need to start staining the 2x8s and make some fresh chalk powder.

Here's a flatcar and my attack. Microtrains ATSF Trailer On Flat Car with a Trainworx Navajo Trailer. Added FVM 36" metal wheels.
Entire car and trailer are weathered.  :D
