Are these releases prototypical? At least somewhat? Or pure fantasy?

This is an SP class 70-BH...  car. I'm bot sure of witch variant. Could be a 70-BH-1, 70-BH-2 or a 70-BH-3

Thanks for the head's up.  Luckily, I think I only need one of these (planning to rework the doors, paint it blue, and letter it for L&N).  I suspect some SP modelers are more than a bit jealous that Goliath the Sea Lion and the PRR got the first cars and SP will have to wait.

Well, I for one will not be waiting. I will be picking up one or two of the NYC cars to repaint and letter into it's proper configuration. SP!! LOL

What a rub, MT is producing a prototype car, but, its first release is of two un-prototypical paint schemes. Go figure!!

There are also several photos over at Jerry's Passenger Car Photo site for those who might not have the book.  Looks like a car that could be used to model other roads coaches as well.  Another car that would not look bad in L&N blue.

70-BH-1, 70-BH-2 or a 70-BH-3

Not a 70-BH-1 or 70-BH-2 cars as they were Harriman/Common Standard cars.  Not a 70-BH-3 because the 70-BH-3 cars had the Harriman/Common Standard carbody and ends with a fishbelly underframe and clerestory roof, quite similar to what some Illinois Central head-end cars were like.

Well, unless I'm confused, which happens with increased regularity, MT Joe said on the other thread that they're doing the car that's at the Arizona Railroad Museum. And that is car 7241, an 1937 eighty-footer 80-BH-1. It's one of the last in a series of SP horse cars (the earlier classes being seventy-footers) and it probably spent more time transporting automobiles, baggage, and storage mail in its long life than it did horses. I doubt elephants ever got within smelling distance.  But, when it did transport horses, on home and foreign rails, they was no nags, Mr. Pud, sir, they was thoroughbreds

Actually, the southwestern roads, SP, UP, ATSF, had quite a number of horse cars between them, and off season, used them on regular trains in multiple capacities. This particular class, 80-BH-1 also carried multiple paint schemes, from the original olive green, to "Golden State" half red-over-silver, to all silver with red letter board, or later, all grey, or as in the photo below, the elegant TTG.

A pretty good choice of a prototype, IMHO. Thanks Joe!

So, from a PRR POV,
My Sweetland & Liljestrand book says:
The trucks should be 3C-P1, which are the Lima trucks, yes?
It looks like even in '51, they still had these trucks. Representative of a B74a class car.
Looks like to model this we would have to change the doors to 2 and 3 window versiona, add vents above the doors, and possibly an ice box or something in the center.

Well, Otto, I stand corrected.  Or maybe Joe stands to be corrected, unless they have 2 cars at the museum.  Or unless the MT version is a 70' foobie of the 80' car.  Cause the MT webpage for new releases says it is a 70' car.

But obviously Joe did say what he said, you definitely got that right.  Will be interesting to see what number they put on the SP car when it comes out.
