@BobRunty - can the printing be removed from the Exactrail cars with little trouble or is that equally difficult?

Maybe, I tried stripping a Chessie one in Scalecoat stripper and they're just too fragile to do any scrubbing on, especially the hopper gates and stirrups. The yellow paint was really thick. Just removing the lettering might be the way to go. If I ever try another I may go that route with my air eraser.
I have some Walthers 4427's that I've been meaning to get to but haven't yet. I was hoping that maybe the Trainworx roof walk might work on them, but a preliminary quick inspection looks like a no go. It looks to big to fit right.

Unfortunately BN paint schemes aren't particularly useful for those of us wanting low side 4427s which is probably why they are still around.  :P ( but thanks for the heads-up)
It's crazy to think I may still have to use my stash of Walthers cars.

Well, for the record, there are several other schemes still available from Exactrail as well.

I'm curious what schemes people want to see on these cars.

Yellow and gray Transport Leasing schemes for one.

 :)

Outside of that there are a ton of TLDX private lease cars that should be done.

Same here, I'll add the CNW gray scheme, and just about any of the private shipper schemes they've done in HO scale.
I’m not here to argue

NP cars def, and I'd take the CGW and grey C&NW too, but the TLDX are what interest me the most, even just the straight up TLDX Lease schemes.  Some people like billboard wood hoppers, I have a fetish for billboard covered hoppers and tank cars (ok, and steel meat reefers too).

Likewise, me too. I built these three Exactrail ones when I was still doing HO.

Exactrail keeps sending me email ads, but I doubt that they'll rerun what they've already done in N, much less do anything new.  I don't even read them anymore.  I'd love to have one of their SP&S Gunderson boxes.

The BN "Original Repaints" are good at least into the early 2000s.  Here's pictures of 450802, the car in the Trainworx announcement, taken in 2006, still in the original BN paint:

Based on the artwork, I'm guessing the BN repaints are post 1977 (due to the lack of ACI labels).

I got some of the BNSF ones, I will have to get some of these too. They will be forcing Intermountain cars off the layout now. Oh well, onwards and upwards. Body mounted couplers win again.

At least one of the BN 4508xx cars had been repainted by June, 1973, because it went through Pasco Yard that month.  I don't know what the exact number was.  These were the ex-NP cars.  Here's a picture of another car in the same series, with the location of the ACI label barely visible to the left of the consolidated stencil, taken in 2006.

As these cars lasted well past the ACI era, and most lost their labels, I wouldn't be surprised if Trainworx left them off for the convenience of modern modelers.  It's easier for those of us modeling the 1970s to put one on than for those modeling the 1980s and later to take it off.

A question for the weathering experts. How would you replicate the grey look of a BN car? The last picture is a common look during the mid to late '90's. A lot of cars I used to see would have the white lettering still look good. Thanks.

The one in @nkalanaga's post?  I'd say start with a good pic of it painted or close to - it almost looks brownish red. Then fad away with a grey fade wash with a couple of drops of a match red-brown paint in them.  Streak the lettering with drybrushed white paint and a fan brush.
