Man, it's getting tough keeping up with Pat. I bought a bunch of the first run of these hoppers and now here comes more. Trainworx is really starting to command a big chunk of my hobby dollars.

I think we've talked about this before, but what's the history of these cars like?

My selfish example: in the mid 80s, how common were they vs. other, larger cars like the 4750s?
http://www.atlastrainman.com/NFreight/tmnthrall4750.htm

From what I remember last time we talked about it, they were earlier cars, and were definitely in the minority in the 80s, meaning the two or so I have already should cover my fleet.

Had to look even though I knew, these aren't the low hip cars.  Those are left to die somewhere in Utah.   :(

LOL, I feel your pain, Jason. I was hopeful too when I saw the 'low hip' moniker.

FWIW, I added up the MILW cars comparing all 4427s listed vs all the 4740/50 cars for 1980 and it come out to about  1:2 ratio.

If you want 'low hip' BN cars, they are still available from Exactrail.

Unfortunately BN paint schemes aren't particularly useful for those of us wanting low side 4427s which is probably why they are still around.  :P ( but thanks for the heads-up)

It's crazy to think I may still have to use my stash of Walthers cars.

Count me in the Trainworx camp, too, even if much of what he offers is too early to be of contemporary use on my layout in my declared era. It's nice to see a company pushing multiple new body styles or designs and paint schemes.
In a period when lots of products have long wait times or wind up cancelled, it's nice to see a company delivering new stuff in a timely fashion. Pat has obviously not offended the Chinese manufacturing dragons.

Oh wow, that's much higher than I expected. I was expecting 1:5 or 1:10. Guess I better grab some more then!

MILW may not be the best example, especially in 1980, but trying to do CR out of a 1980 ORER is a serious cluster f---.   ;)

Oh yeah. CR was a mess. That's why I'm glad I've got @GonzoCRFan around for such questions.

Yeah there are so many more paint schemes that could be done with the low sides, but Exactrail seems to have given up on them. Even if they just offered all the ones they did in HO. And Exactrails are pretty much impossible to strip the paint off of without damaging them, ( found out the hard way). :(   I'd really like to see Trainworx do the 4740, though.

@BobRunty - can the printing be removed from the Exactrail cars with little trouble or is that equally difficult?

I hope and pray every day that Exactrail will do their 4780s in N scale.
