Oh, OK.  They seem almost white, and very smooth and even.  At least in that photo. That is why I asked.

Hmm.  Maybe I should have roughened them up a bit, before they were painted.

They represent the rolling hills of southern Pennsylvania.  In the distance.

On my iPhone they are a really light mint green - but not much removed from white.nthe Three Foot Rule may apply.

New denizens for the passenger terminal that have been "in the works" for quite a while.  Not up to the museum quality standard of a couple of the entries earlier in the thread, but I have fun and it keeps me out of trouble.  And my N scale patrons can travel in something more interesting than matched sets of smoothside lightweights.

Monon 75 is a modified MT parlor car.  Decals were from MS sets for Monon diesels, along with white striping, and made the "Monon" at home on my printer (need to adjust hue a bit before the next batch)

C&WI 40 is leftover parts from old Lima/Model Power combine and obs, along with a shortened resin roof (no idea who made it, but picked up a couple in a box of leftovers on eBay), and interior cut down from a MT coach interior.  C&WI decals were from Gary Roe, and intended for C&WI diesels, but the heralds were sized the same, based on photos in my books on Chicago passenger trains.

I have a mind like a steel trap...a VERY rusty, old steel trap.

Not much accomplished due to travel and work, but I have been enjoying playing with my new lens and lighting set up.

Scott,

I've seen this bridge in person, seen a number of photos of it, seen your posts here on TRW and now, I just have to ask......why is it only partially painted in black, or orange?!?

Doug, no one knows for certain it seems.  I've heard several theories:  partial repaint after a wreck that damaged part of the bridge; lead in the orange paint that caused an environmental backlash during the repaint; or CN is cheap and stopped painting it at some point (that is my favorite :D ).  The orange is a color they used on many bridges, so I assume it was a top coat.

Scott...the whole scene is great and I think I have commented how great the various pieces are previously.  This time I just want to praise the river...if that is a perfect reproduction of the Great, Muddy Fraser.  I haven't seen that type of water portrayed before and you pulled it off beautifully.

nice work!

Scott. If it weren't for the painted back drop we wouldn't know it wasn't the real thing.

I wonder if CN was painting the bridge the same scheme as those locos on top of it?

Scott: wow.
The bridge & scene is amazing.
Really dig the paint color on the bridge.
Reminds me that the Navy wanted the Golden Gate Bridge painted yellow & black safety stripes before it was completed in 1937.
Thank goodness for "Industrial Orange", the hardest working fruit in the pigment spectrum.
Love watching this scene come together!

After finishing a HO layout for a client, I'm back working on refurbishing the 1'x6' Alameda Belt-in-a-Box layout.
Now replacing the huge Caboose Catapults with SparkFun slide switches (which also power the frogs).

Good excuse for a video:

More in Layout threads.
Have a great weekend!

Scott when we were building our version of the TRC back in early 2001 we were told that the bridge actually caught fire and was not painted resulting in the rust colour.
Fab shot by the way that new lens is working very nicely.

According to Doug Hole's articles in Mainline Modeler and RMC, the fire in the late 1970s involved a group of phosphate cars destined for Agrium's fertilizer plant near Edmonton.  Several ended up in the river, while several damaged the bridge on the west bank side and burnt in place.  Some metal was replaced, but not as much as you would expect. The repair took months, so they built the cutoff on the east bank to allow CN trains to shift over to the CP line.  The repainting followed that repair at some stage but the date is elusive.  The two pillars of the approach on the east bank are also painted orange.

I'm just glad they did not choose the pastel lime green CN used on bridges elsewhere.  :ashat:

@M.C.Fujiwara
Welcome back to N scale. I forgot how much detail you packed into that thing! And the little throttle always made me chuckle since we all spend some time arguing about which big dcc system we should invest a small fortune in. How has Alameda held up in the garage?
