Okay update!!! Finally found a good 1amp.12vdc power supply I could work with, rewired and holy mackerel is this thing powerful!!! Actually with the 6mm grass I herd a sound coming from the grass as it was pulled out of the bottle, kinda like a static sound but no shock. What was also cool was the strange patterns it was making.

Now I'm  off to make some tufts on metal plate with wax paper, I'll take pictures after they dry, I just hope the girls don't mind static grass in the holiday cookies on the cookie sheet.

There really is no comparison between the fly swatter version and the one's with the 12v ion generators.

The directions for the original Grassinator are still available too.

Jason my friend I have to disagree,  I tried the fly swatter and tried bumping up voltage, still very weak, would not use it on my layout, it was somewhat okay for trees. Also don't work so well on flyS too!! so I went with this method, still a lot cheaper than Comercial versions. Btw. This is the Grassinator just modified to work in water bottle, like I said in past posts cocktail mixer in plastic will work too. Thank you for your input Jason very much appreciated.

Jason my friend I have to disagree

You're not disagreeing.   8)

The 12v version is far superior.

Well I have to say the static water bottle worked good on the layout, here's a couple of shots, note foreground, watched a lot of YouTube vids. today on different methods, layering is going to take some practice.

Looks great!  You need to start a comprehensive layout build thread.

The results actually look better than with the $130 Noch one that I bought- in that a higher % of grass is vertical.  Nice work. The tuffs look amazing too.

Very very nice tufts!
Looks to me indeed more powerfull than the Noch one...you can get addicted to that piece of equipment!
Btw very nice scenery  and rockfaces!
( and of course also a nice tree! )

So I just built one of these.

Question to those who have built one. If I touch the clip lead to the screen shouldn't I get a spark?

I get no spark, but if I touch both leads I get shocked. My flyswatter version sparked like crazy.

I've never done it intentionally but I have gotten too close to the pin, nail or in my case the paper clip the alligator clip is soldered to and I have gotten a spark.
