Maybe something like an IR alarm can be fastened to a stick or lamp so it is facing down . Its cone of detection can be walled with a square or round funnel attached to the unit .

Hello everyone!

Here is the last installment before painting.

THAT'S RIGHT!   After this installment, the engine is complete except for painting, and then adding a few details that have to go on after the paint, such as window glass, a bell rope, and cab curtain.

This installment covers the bell, whistle and linkages, marker lamps and the backhead.

At the end, there is a set of "glam" shots to fully document the engine in its raw brass state before painting.  There is also a link to a final demonstration video at the end of this post.
























































































And finally, here is a video of the engine going through the paces of a "run", from pulling out of a yard, making up a train with some switching moves, and running on the main for a minute or two.  It got kind of long (13 minutes), so I don't expect anyone to sit through all of it.  Feel free to skip.

EDIT: I showed my wife the picture of the bell, and pointed out how small it is. I'm not sure if she really believed me.

Thank you everyone, and to all of you who have slogged along with my on this project for over 3 years.
I hope it wasn't boring or tedious. 

I am beyond ecstatic to see how close it is now.  Time to say "goodbye" to the bare brass, even though I will miss it.

Some jeweler's burrs are round, very much like engraving burrs.  I have some of those, and I also have the angled "90 degree" type, which are more like a pointed, wide-spread cone.  Those are really good for making pointy-bottomed cone-shaped holes for things like marker jewels or the cone shaped holes in a truck sideframe that the axle point rides in.
They are good for any case where you want the hole to have straight sloping sides and be shaped more like a cone.

I am stunned.  Really.  Superb work Max!  Not only looks "just right", meaning with all that non-generic, prototypical detail and proportion, but runs like a Swiss watch!

That said, I really enjoyed the video...every minuted of it, with one small caveat...slinky effect.  I get used to it when operating and switching, but video is a harsh taskmaster and the sproinging detracts from your superb and faultless work.  I'm hoping that modified MTL TSC's are going to do the trick for me.

When I was going through the photos of your unpainted backhead masterpiece, I was saying "Meh...nice" but THEN...the photo of the painted backhead popped out of the page and slapped me across the face!! WOW!!  I am going to assume that when you're done painting this model, with the added details and weathering...it is going to do the same!

I'm preparing myself....
