Ok good stuff here. Thank you everyone!

I will run the brown TT cars from MTL with a clear conscience!  ;)

ASH10A, not PSH10A.

Tomato, tomahto.  same car different builder, ACF vs. Pullman.

You baffle me once again Bryan.  First you say this:
The MTL model is not 95% accurate because the scheme pre-dates the prototype that the MTL car is based on.

Then you say this.
MTL never has stated what the prototype is for the TOFC.  So the actual prototype of the model is inconclusive.

Pick a side, it can't be both ways.

You also said this:
the nitpicking of a model being inaccurate for certain specific paint schemes due to minor detail variations is ridiculous

Even though that's exactly what you're doing with this car.

I don't get where your heads at on all of this.  The car is a very good match (I still say 95% because I can only see that the jack stands are different) for the 1968 ACF TTAX cars that MTL produced in brown, even if the actual prototype is a later build by either Pullman or ACF.

But enough from me, time for some left overs!

What jack stands are you looking at? Photo?

From the Pullman builders photos I have seen their cars don't seem to match the rub rail configuration of the MTL or Atlas model - both are ACF.

I agree with you though that the brown TTAX scheme that MTL has done on their car would appear to be a good representation considering the previous and current maturity of the intermodal flat car market.

Re: jack stands/pads, I'll have to look when I get home from AZ, but I do believe I can show a difference on at least one of the cars builds.

For the rub rails, is see that the PS cars look full length while the ACF has breaks in it. I'll keep that in mind looking at any other photos.

@James Costello

I knew I had a decent picture of the ACF jack pads.  It's subtle, but you can see differences.  And for those who may not have been convinced, take note of the white decking.

And here's the slightly later Pullman cars:

And then even later Pullman cars:

And the MTL car:

The changes go on into the PSH22 cars which are totally different pads.

I think I need to start keeping notes, as my memory about all this keeps slipping more and more as the years go by.

So the MT jacking pads don't even look like any of your (awesome) photos.

What was the question again?

No kidding, LOL.

There are still other classes (that can be found in this post) that could be investigated, but I'm not sure how necessary that is at this point.

The overall point was that the MTL car does a fine job on the early rbown TTAX cars even after all these years.  I wonder if MTL could be convinced to paint the car a more prototypical color and add the white deck?  Do that with color molded hitches and bridge plates, I think they'd have a [rejuvenated] winner.

For anyone still tuned in, there is a great RMJ article the covers much of what we've discussed.

Man, about all I care about is whether it stays on the rails and do I have to modify my trailers to fit on the hitches.
It's hard for me to see any of these details when my train is running by me at 50 scale MPH.

Anybody know the link to that Trainlife article on kitbashing the MT cars we're talking about?  Had the same thought about TrainLife, want to get the good stuff right now.

If it's not on Trainlife, PM me, I may have it scanned in.
