One Modern Freight Car That's Ignored...

Not a complaint here, just an observation...

The modern 2 bay covered hopper  has been really ignored in N...   These cars have become REALLY common,
I guess with fracking sand as well as building material components.

Any thoughts?

(yes I know about various 60/70 era centerflows and the PM/RC car which I think is part foob.)

Yep.  A Trinity 2-bay is still lodged on my top-5 listThis one would do quite nicely.

There are a few variations of these, just not the particular variant, correct?  The Atlas and IM cars are quite nice when detailed a bit.

You have to figure it's on someone's list given the interesting paint scheme...

re:  Atlas, IM and Athearn 2 bays - no doubt nice models,  but not the most common in this service anymore....

Has anyone ever bashed this from a pair of BLMA or ER reefers?

This shot illustrates the difference pretty well.  The first car in the string is an ACFX style car like the IM model (which is indeed very nice).  The rest of the cars are the more modern - and now more numerous - Trinity style car, which has a higher sill and a slightly rounder profile.   In the same way we like to have variety in our strings of box cars, we'd like the same in a string of cement hoppers.

I recall seeing a pretty nice one on Trainboard several years ago, based on the Walthers cryo reefer, but I would be hard pressed to find it now.

The Southdown cars are actually built by Thrall and not an exact match for the IM ACF model.   I guess one can parse the meaning of 'modern', if one wishes, but the IM model is more modern than the Athearn version (also ACF), while both of those are still plenty common on the prototype.

While this in no way negates your point about variety, there are some options for modern cement train modelers out there.

Oh, I have plenty of IM cars I plan to keep!  Another cement car I would like is a PD 3230.  (I am looking forward to the BLMA PD 5660 though.)

I have a frac sand load out on my layout, so I wouldn't mind some more variety in my 2-Bay fleet. I prefer the quality of Athearn cars, I have some IM and a few modified Atlas and MT cars to fill out the ranks, but more choices would be good. The differences are easy to see when the cars are side by side.

Those 2-bay hoppers are the reason I couldn't model the modern era.  I need my 60's variety.  :P

I'd definitely be a buyer if a manufacture came out with trinity 2 bays. I built one by cutting down a trinity 5161 hopper but it was more effort than what it was worth.
