I just noticed that there appear to be twovariations of the Atlas car.  One has the hand brake at the opposite end from the refrigeration unit (which is correct), the other has it on the same end as the refrigeration unit (which is not).

I decided to check my other Atlas reefers (with roadnames). Bad news. Twenty of them have the brake wheel on the wrong end. Rats! Anyone wanna buy 20 Atlas 50' reefer shells w/underframes, cheap? $1 each.

Hmm... it looks like the
ricochet got Kiz...

Two scientists create a teleportation ray, and they try it out on a cricket. They put the cricket on one of the two teleportation pads in the room, and they turn the ray on.
The cricket jumps across the room onto the other pad.

Just about finished with the South Boulder Works Shapeways FM H10-44 that I showed last week. Got the railings soldered together and the glass installed. Still have to wire in the lights and add some light weathering but I'll call this one a success. Now I just need a second unit to MU with it !

Very nice Bill!

However, I'm curious...are there really no ridges on the sides and top?...or is it the careful, shadowless lighting?...or did you sand them off?

Nice work on the railings and grabs.  Look to be somewhere between .008" and .006"??

Cheerio!

Thanks Bob. It's a LOT of sanding. Railings and grabs are .008 phosphor bronze wire. Shapeways 3D printing can yield nice models but not without some TLC from the builder !

As @Philip H posted, the Juniata Division hosted Phil's second visit.  He also got to see the pink foam mess that is the current state of the Colorado Midland Railway.

This weekend was fully and utterly "consumed" with the annual Vancouver Train expo and associate modeler's meet.  As part of the modeler's meet, registered attendees could, amongst other activities:
  • attend any of 14 clinics including a fascinating interactive clinic by TRW's own Gary Hinshaw where you could use your smart device to control his TBC JMRI system (see TBC thread in Layout Updates folder)
  • participate in Virtual Layout Tours of four local layouts (see Coquihalla and BCR threads in the HO folder)
  • and attend an operating session at local layouts

The C&W was one of the Virtual layouts and its water features were the subject of one of the clinics.  I also hosted a session for operators and have included some photos of the 3+ hours of fun below.

I hope all of your weekend's were as entertaining as mine turned out to be!

Kiz,

PFE 301209 (I think that's an R-70-6)  seems to be almost a perfect match for the Atlas 50' reefer (and shows roller bearings in the photo).

I just noticed that there appear to be twovariations of the Atlas car.  One has the hand brake at the opposite end from the refrigeration unit (which is correct), the other has it on the same end as the refrigeration unit (which is not).  Spookshow shows an example with hand brake on the wrong end.

If you got 100 or so of them, do you have a mix with hand brakes at either end?

George
The inserts were put into the mold base in the wrong orientation.
This has happened before with the Con-Cor E8B and maybe the E7B too.
There is a real variation on the Atlas Mech Reefer where the MiniTrix body was used instead of the Atlas one

South end is painted and finished:

Under layout storage will consist of weather-proof 30 gallon bins:

About 10 will be used for trains, the rest will be used for household storage along the length of the layout.

Painted the stairs and installed the anti-skid scotch bright:

Still have to finish painting the left wall.

Air supply installed:

The fitting to the left is filtered and regulated for airbrushing. The fitting on the right is to dump air for pressure casting, air tools and large format spray guns for layout paint and glue application.

Nothing fancy in back, just a single gang box for each fitting:

Shut-off valve on the clean line when using high pressure on the dump line:

Lines intersect above and will lead to the compressor out back. Maximum line pressure is 120 PSI.

Then you're careful grace for sure

Kinda like the way you keep looking away

Still not a ton of modeling, but more time on the computer.

Redrew some wheel landing gear for the TWX trailers.  Was hoping to get them Thursday or Friday but nothing showed up.

Also redrew some Pullman Car Builder Door for the Red Caboose X29.

Waiting to hear about parts sprues for the IMR 40' steel reefer to try and super detail one of the X29's.

So this week maybe I can get to finishing the Hydroframes for the Athearn PS-1s.
