Then there is the matter of getting enough roller bearing trucks w/medium extension couplers for 106 cars. Ouch...

Zzzzzzzzzz...

Why roller bearings? I think these cars rode on friction bearing trucks.

All of my Micro-Trains mechanical reefers came with roller bearing trucks, so I used that as a guide. Besides, I'm modeling early 1972, so by then most such cars should have been converted to roller bearings.

Hmm... all my mechanical
reefers have arch bars...

I didn't get a whole lot done but did some more detailing to my C39-8.

I also blew some money at a show in Wyoming, MI today.

I hope you know you are the reason I bought the shell off Shapeways. If only they would do a C32-8. Gray ghosts in a ballast train.

I have plans for the C32-8, My roster could use a few ballast express locos. I'm just not sure about the decals though.

I have not been able to get back to modelling yet as I still need to set up the workshop in the new digs, but should be able to get back to work on the Millvale diorama soon.   In the meantime, took to the skies for a little railfanning while travelling to Pittsburgh.  Caught these Ohio Central (G&W) Super 7's-- count em 4 of 17 ever (re)built-- laying over in Zanesville, OH.  This would make a neat scene to model, and what a railroad to model to boot, what with the wide variety of power they have run over the years.   - Jesse

Reese, I feel like a moron. I didn't even realize that was your store I bought from!

I'm pretty sure the C32 was shorter. Maybe C30-7 length? This would require a new walkway as well. Maybe a 3 part kit is in order: cab, hood and walkway?

Now, can I convince you to make Flexcoil drop-in replacments for the Atlas/IM SD40-2/SD50 HT-C trucks?

Kiz:  Many of the cars built in the 50s and early 60s with solid bearing trucks, and later converted to roller bearings, used bearing conversion kits.  Visually, the only change was that the journal box covers were usually removed so the roller bearings could be seen.  On an N scale model it's almost impossible to see the difference, so if you have, or can get, the solid bearing trucks, they'd probably be appropriate.

No modeling this week - and I now have a post-Alabama loss depression to drink my way out of - but I did manage to squeeze in some Juniata Division rail fanning on a work trip this week:

I am really digging that station..... love the passenger steps; might one inquire where you obtained them..? Very nice work!
Model railroading isn't saving my life, but it's providing me moments of joy not normally associated with my current situation..... Train are good!

After a little searching the C32 was a little shorter. The C30-7 was 67'3" and the C32-8 67'11" so if one can live with the 4" difference that route would work. I'll have to start some research for it.

I'll look into the trucks as well, I'm tired of having the incorrect trucks on my ex CR models.

Work at the brewery continues.  Added the brick office annex, and created space for the beer garden.  More details and finishes to come.  Looking through the scrap bins to see if there's not some old brass chandelier parts that can play the role of brewing tanks behind those big windows...

Kiz:  Many of the cars built in the 50s and early 60s with solid bearing trucks, and later converted to roller bearings, used bearing conversion kits.

I've been looking for mechanical reefers, and I found these (of several so far) with roller bearings:

http://canadianfreightcargallery.ca/cgi-bin/image.pl?i=bnfe8484&o=bn

http://canadianfreightcargallery.ca/cgi-bin/image.pl?i=fgex1182&o=fgex

http://canadianfreightcargallery.ca/cgi-bin/image.pl?i=pfe301209&o=pfe

The next few, I really can't say for sure, but to my eyes, it looks like they have roller bearings:

http://canadianfreightcargallery.ca/cgi-bin/image.pl?i=modx2109&o=artx

http://canadianfreightcargallery.ca/cgi-bin/image.pl?i=cn231027&o=cn

http://canadianfreightcargallery.ca/cgi-bin/image.pl?i=rmax293&o=artx

Well, that should be sufficient to justify my using roller bearings. I may decide to skip the medium extension couplers and go with the short extension trucks.

Hmm... I thought Kiz
was gonna write a term
