OMG, that's part of the ambiance! In my early railfanning days we joked about having a telephone pole filter in our camera bags, a/k/a a chainsaw. Now with lineside poles all but gone, the feel simply isn't the same.

Layout swapping... It's just like the 70s.  Just leave your throttle in the brandy snifter to see which railroad you're going to go home with...

Or leave a white rock in your front yard...your neighbor's layout might end up at your door...

You know, I knew Ed's layout was out to shatter established ideas of layout construction, but when I went there, I saw the shelf was actually suspended by chains and was hung from the ceiling. He also said he didn't need the chains anymore since he got a new bed and that's why he repurposed them. I always wondered what he meant by that.

Upon further reflection, just leaving it "generic Pennsy" gives you all the flexibility in the world on what you can run on it (except electrics).

Case in point...something really cool I saw in one of my Pennsy Diesel Years books is an F unit running backwards all the way from Bellefonte to Montandon some time just before the center part of the Montandon Secondary was torn out.  Ed's Law strokes again!

That was exactly my original goal while building it. There's nothing on it that says it's not the Buffalo Line, the Bald Eagle Branch, the Petersburg Cutoff, somewhere on the B&O / CSX Philly Sub, or any one of a million other northeastern single track locales.

The only definitive thing on it, really, was the double track RoW with a single track on it. But the PRR started doing that stuff back in the 50s, so even then you're covered!

well,  after a few swipes to clean off the track....  it runs.... that's a start.
plus Ed put up some cardboard protection on the ledges to keep rolling stock from careening to the floor

plus... there might be a digitrax repair ongoing....

so...   I know there was stuff going on
