I got some of the Atlas 90 ton coupler conversion and they are awesome. They  drop right in on the ends and just need to be glue in. I just need a bunch of BLMA trucks to complete the cars.

I m also going to need a lot of those coupler conversions for 90 Ton Hoppers.  I wish those were available in "10-packs".  Has anyone seen them for sale other than the Trainworx website?

As for the Atlas 90 Hopper, I remember when BLW did their special run of PRR hoppers over thirty years ago (667200).  I wonder if that has been the best selling N scale car of all time?  N Scale of Nevada also offered a conversion platform of soft metal, and I always wished I had gotten more.  These are going to cost me some money, but at least I can repurpose the trucks.

MTL 1035s work fine with the coupler removed. Leave them on. The Atlas trucks work fine too without couplers. I just convert all of mine to FVM metal wheels.

The Atlas "90 Ton" hoppers are actually 100 ton cars and should have 100 ton roller bearing trucks (FWIW)

The Atlas 100 ton trucks also have slightly larger wheels (36") compared to the 70-ton trucks with 33" wheels.

I was going to used BLMA 100T trucks on mine but they are to low and the axle hit the center bean under the car so I going to go MT 1036 with FVM wheels.

I got mine from MBK and E-bay, I bough whatever they had on hand, enough for thirteen cars.

Ok,

I got some of these - one thing I don't like is that the coupler box is screwed in from the top:




Hopefully, the coupler will not need servicing, as once glued in I won't be able to get to it.

For my Atlas 100 ton hoppers, I am adding the Microtrains brake hardware (available in MTL part 1064, new part # 49965935) - here it is glued to the Trainworx 622:



Here I have glued the pieces in (they fit nicely) - I used spots of glue in case I ever need to separate these for some reason:



Here, I borrowed Microtrains 100 ton trucks from my 60' 12200050 box car and placed them on the car - the car to the left has Atlas 70 ton roller bearing trucks:



With the MTL 100 ton truck, the hopper comes in at about 12' tall, close enough to the proto's 12'3" for me.

I will likely replace the MTL plastic 36" wheels with metal ones if MTL makes this truck available.

Now if only these trucks were available separately from MTL ...

This hasn't been mentioned much but some of his new freight cars come the same way.     

Cars I know of are the 85' flat, the Thrall gondola and the new 4427 hopper.  At least on the new hopper you can see the screw.  I don't know if it's even accessible on the other two.  I noticed this a little while ago and meant to e-mail Pat about it.  I just sent him an e-mail, we'll see what he says.
