Cat poles?  Aren't those usually installed in adult-entertainment clubs?

@Bob Bufkin Yes I know those are there.  Scaling those down would be difficult.

The cross section of the H channel for the pole would look ridiculous in Shapeways with 1.89" thick flanges. (0.3mm min wall in FXD).  Im still trying to think of a better way, unless folks could livwe with a solid pole instead of an H section.  The other concern is that FXD is very brittle for a long skinny pole, and would very likely warp or get broken in shipping.

Special Shapes sells 1/8 and 1/16" brass H-columns. Those are quite sturdy - would those work?

yes, but what a pain cutting and soldering all those up especially if I tried to offer those as kits! then the k supports and insulators!  we need star trek replicators!

The Pennsy had them every 300' on straight mainline and closer on curves.

Then there is mounting them to allow them to be removable, maybe the base has a rare earth magnet underneath.  ughh
