Better than some obscure horse car!     But seriously, this release is a grand slam for me, not because the cans are exciting, but because they're ubiquitous (the 40' box car of the modern era).  The authenticity of the train line-up on my layout will grow by leaps and bounds in one fell swoop, especially when combined with the Trainworx trailers.

Thinking about the container announcement a little more, I wonder if we can expect a 53' well car from them next?

Better to not expect it from them, then they will deliver.

I agree, this container model is a great offering, and a smart first step.  If they can keep them coming with different schemes, the return on the tooling should be excellent and will help keep the company afloat.

Thankfully, the model is not yet another boxcar

While these are too new for me, a good many of my friends model today's railroading and will be purchasing these for sure.  We sit track side and see most of the containers in this announcement roll by on the 2 NS intermodal trains that roar by.  They've been hoping for something like this.  You can't please everyone with every announcement.  It's a start.  Let's see where they go with it.

It may not be a boxcar,, but it is still a box.

YAWN

I would be happy for anything I could use in the late 70's and the decade of the 80's.

Glad the modern crowd got something

Just once again

I feel kinda sorry for Dave Ferrari at Deluxe.  He had the 53 foot world at his feet and lost the tooling in the Chinese mess a couple years back.  Now we have Con-Cor (which I didn't think were all that bad), M-T, and these folks.  Serious dent in the pocketbook, and it will/would be an uphill battle for him.

Well I'm glad the modern crowd got another accurate modern piece of equipment.
Seriously though, is it me or is every freaking release something modern or semi modern? Us transition era guys would like some updates equipment that's not rolling from the 70s with 8" diameter rivets!

Ha, it's funny. At first I went to the reefer version and didn't understand why everyone was so excited. I was like "meh, I don't think I've ever seen ANY of these".

Then today, I went to the dry ones. Uhh, yeah. Every damn train on the NS Pittsburgh Line: fatheads and stacks. And what are in those stacks? These things. Lots of these things.

I'm very happy for my modern modeling colleagues.

Yes, I like the reefer versions, they are nice, and my reaction was "Wow!". I see them every day on NS through here. But it's not what I model, so there you go.

However, I'm not going to begrudge the "modern crowd" their due. What about the Atlas S-2 and IM SD40-2 (...eventually...), or MTL's heavyweights? Or BLMA's beer reefers, that have a great '70s to '00s overlap? EDIT: And don't forget Bluford's very nice USRA hopper offerings! (I will admit a certain amount of dissatisfaction over recent tank car releases... we're real good from the '80s on, or before 1950, but, hey, what about us post-transition modelers, hmmm?)

THAT SAID... it is worthwhile noting that two relative newcomers, Scale Trains and Exact Rail, serve both HO and N, but only the HO line gets "classic era" product. It's been cussed and discussed about many MRRs seeking to recapture the ambiance of their teen years, so is the perception that HO is comprised of old farts and N is full of young turks? Hopefully Scale Trains will redeem themselves with upcoming announcements, but ER, who I've been wanting to support, has the misperception that N doesn't sell. I keep telling Blaine that no, it's because you do things like the Vert-a-Pacs, which may be cool but are way beyond "niche", with very little real market. Two of ER's latest HO releases are wanna-haves for me, but I got the (now getting old) usual "no plans" response from Blaine for porting them to N. :|

Could not agree more--having said that, these guys are starting from scratch and they can deliver, just can't figure out Dave's problem.  I must say  Love Dave's Maxi IVs.  I like these a lot better than Kato's.  I have been getting Con-Cor's 53' containers and they suit me just fine, and now another supplier.  Life is good!!!  Need some chassis though.

I love Con Cor's paint schemes, but I can't get past the tooling.  Like others, I would be happy to see Deluxe start to get more product out the door and would be happy to pay for it.  His recent well cars are best on the market from my experience.  Honestly, how expensive could tooling be for a container?  There are variations of the 40' containers we still need, and a dizzying array of paint schemes of existing tooling that could be done.  Every company with container tooling could produce a lot more in terms of variety in schemes to generate revenue.

This thread has taken on the feel of so many product threads here.  I know everyone has interests and specfic models/eras, but do modern modellers come onto steam and transition product threads and complain about a lack of product?  There is lots of pretty much everything for everyone and we should enjoy it as we will.  The negative waves get tiresome.

I don't know if this was mentioned earlier but I just read an article about the company to see who started this. It is comprised of more than a couple key players from Athearn / Horizon. I've met and dealt with a few of them and think they are the right people to make this work. I hope it works out for them because it could mean something good for us. They have over 50 products in the works per the article and it is not just freight cars and locos.

Well, containers are neither of the above - so that is true.  :)

Rounded the bases right with you Gary. I'm all over this.

Also those DeLuxe Maxi V now have a purpose.
