November 2015 Weathering Challenge

Well, the previous Weathering Challenge was a hit! Let's do it again.

1. This time, the theme is "some excess height freight car". Go find a prototype photo.
2. Replicate the weathering and aging seen on the prototype photo: any kind, any era, any scale.
3. Post some in-progress photos or commentary.  Share and ask for techniques/help. *You need to do this*: I don't want folks submitting previously made work.
4. Take a photo of your completed model without scenery and post it here. In other words, the quality of scenery should not come into play.
5. On November 30 (a Monday this time), I'll start a poll for the members to vote for the model that they like the best.  The poll will run for a week.

Again, a (up to) $20 dollar item courtesy of Feather River Trains will be the prize.  Chuck will send you something that matches your interests.

Thanks, Tom

I think the only excess height car I have in my possession is that one MDC car that has no known prototype.
When you model the mid sixties, there weren't many excess height cars plying the rails that had heavy weathering at that point.

The only one I own is a big'un...  It's already had a pass with my airbrush a few years back.  Can I refine the weathering and have it still count, or must it start clean?

The prototype (exact road number):

This is kinda up my alley, have lots of excess height cars.  Yet, when I grab one and try to find pictures of the car number I have, I find one photo of that car, and it's at an angle, or I find cars with 1 number higher or lower....

Does the car itself have to be excess height or can it be a regular piece of rolling stock, but with a high/wide load?

Yeah, I'm out. I have nothing excessively high.
In a little glad. Too much stress!  :D

I'll have to dig through my stash to see what excess height cars I have, if not I guess that means a reason to buy something.  8)

Certainly not  :D

And there isn't anything larger-than-loading-gauge on the GWR either. And a Google search for PRR excess height rolling stock gave me gons with large iron/steel beam loads.

Do woodchip gons count? I have a proto in mind if they do (if I have the cojones to attempt it that is).

OK, I'll give it a try. But I do not promise to post any result

The prototype

And the model which I did some futile weathering attempts on a few years ago
