Makes me wonder if one could use a Bachmann 2-10-2 mech and that K4 motor to make a proper Russian decapod.Or we just all lobby Bachmann to finally produce Russian decapods in N.
Well, that's an interesting thought, Bachmann announced it some years ago and then backed out for whatever reason. It may not be obvious just how light and diminuitive the Russian Decapod was/is. It had 52" drivers and a fixed wheelbase of under 19' for all five drivers. In part because of the enormous flanges, the Trix has a fixed wheelbase over 23'. The Bachmann is certainly closer in size than the Trix, see below, and its motor is in the boiler, not the cab. But that's probably another project if someone wanted to take it on...Otto K.
Now I actually am beginning to consider making a Russian decapod. An actual Russian one of course.
You're going to model wide-gauge in N scale? Cool!
I just got in the Bacmann 2-10-2 the drivers are seemingly perfect fo the Russian Decapod... it is a sweet emgine, really don't know why Bachmann doesn't use the motor from the K4 and this chassi to make a very nice Russian Decapod
I considered it once, very briefly. It's about 9.6mm gauge I believe.
alledgedly thers a Bachmann 2-10-0 out there.. i just orderd / paid for one from Texnrails.. we shall see... to my knowledge, this engine was never made.. although I know there is such a creature in HO, I am doubting this is a reality in N scale..it coud be that my projet wil be sitting next to the dash 8 I started back in 1990!
maybe we should strt an open letter to Bachmann???
