hand sprayer brand?
« on: September 24, 2015, 10:02:41 PM »

The hand sprayer which I bought for scenery work has the bad habit of emitting the occasional drop of water in addition to the spray.  The cumulative effect of this is visible when spraying fixative on loose scenery materials.  So, does anyone in the USA (ideally the Chicago area) know of a particular brand or type of hand sprayer which does NOT do this?

Thanks in advance, MH

I think you're looking more for a type of sprayer rather than a brand. I take it you're probably using a generic hardware store or kitchen trigger sprayer. Look in the garden department for a plant mister. They're typically made of metal and have a piston pump action. Some are available with a glass bowl.

I have really good luck with an empty CA accelerator sprayer after the accelerator is gone.  I think you can pick up empty ones at your LHS.  If I remember correctly, empty liquid hairspray sprayers work pretty good too.  Only problem with all of these is that your finger gets tired pretty quick.

Laugh if you want, but I use an empty and well washed one of these:

It mists well until it gets low, and if you hold it a foot or so above the layout it lands gently.

Check out hair dressing suppliers, the ones used in that trade are far superior in quality and build plus they are usually more comfortable to use.

I was wondering how you got your hair to do that.

I think I got mine at Wegmans. It doesn't have a brand name. It was small and clearly for beauty use.

Personally, I like the ones that have the "trigger" vs the "pump" type because I feel like they don't beat your fingers up as much after repetitive use.

Then how about this particular plant mister? Pump it up and let 'er rip:

Under $10. Like a mini hand-held garden sprayer. I'll try to remember to look for one on the next trip to the D-I-Y store.

I would guess that thing would spray too high a volume for N Scale scenery construction.  Let us know.

Edited for grammar on "to and too"
