BLW's listing says to be released after Labor Day, which has come and gone. Could also be anytime after that date then.
Anyone in the know?

I just hope it isn't an ultra short run that sells out in 15 minutes.

Man, that brings back memories.
You younger guys missed it.

My brain is a little fuzzy on details.

But somehwhere around the late 80's, a big manufacturer had a long-desired product that was just about to come out.
My fuzzy brain said it was Bachmann.

At first, we were told It was due to arrive any day.
People waited and waited.

When asked.... we were told it was "on the water."

Great!

We waited.... and waited....

something like 1- 2 years went by!  Hahaha.

Clearly, it was not "on the water".

I guess more than one manufacturer has done this.

I have memories of people starting a thread about having caught a glimpse of the product through photoshopping.

Like a scene on the water and the loco is breaking the water, like a whale, in the distance.
Some of the photoshopping was hilarious.
It was frustrating, but fun.
People can be very creative.

I don't think it was in the 80s but Bachmann never did release N-scale Russian Decapods like they had announced. (back in the early 2000s I think?)

I got mine from Hobbysmith in Portland, OR.  I have seen them at Tacoma Trains as well.

At the NMRA Portland show, they actually had a selection of them at the Arnold booth, fully lettered and running,
so I don't think these are vaporware.

And by the way... they ran FABULOUSLY.   Straight DC, no tricks, and that thing crawled and purred like nobody's business.
If they do one in a road name I can use, I will actually buy one (and I don't, um, buy new engines very often.)

Ron,

I think one instance might have been the Intermountain tunnel motors, I recall some good photoshops during that timeframe.

I made one with a tunnel motor as the Loch Ness Monster.

Keeping with the off topic bit of loco's on the water, there's a Tang Shin Loco Works 2-8-0(?) somewhere under the Indian Ocean. I think it was destined for operation in PA., or the Valley RR in Essex, CT. Stormy weather tossed it in the drink. Occurred in the '80's?

Looks like the SW-1's are working there way East.  :)
