Only other comment I'd make is, how hard is it to clip off the lift tines and move them up?  Can it be done without destroying the model?

Or could you make that a separate piece to make the position optional to the modeler's needs and preference?

So here's the thing about removable forks, originally I considered making the forks and headboard rack as a separate piece to be positionable, however because the details on those pieces are so fine, I'm not sure they would survive on their own, even with a sprue, so I just opted to keep them attached to the forklift.

The entire lift tower, will be relatively easy to remove from the body though, as it is only connected in two places near the fenders by a piece that is approximately 0.4mm square as shown in the cross section view below.

The rack and forks are attached pretty solidly to the lift tower, however I think it would be possible to slip a blade in between them to split it apart. Cross section shown for clarity below:

I'm not sure because I haven't done it before. I'll try and make the next forklift I work on have easily repositionable forks.

We'll see when I get some.  I can't orient myself with the first image in your post, but the second one showing the cross-section is clear.

Yeah its a little bit hard to see from that first picture, but basically the left gray section is the fender, the blue section is the connecting piece, and the tall gray piece is the lift tower.

The second image was enough.  This doesn't take away from the fact that I've been looking for a forklift that wasn't pretty obviously too modern for my transition era, and I haven't been able to find such a model. 

You've solved that for me, and the position of the forks is gravy.

I need one for my American Freedom Train, but it will most likely be welcome by other modelers too.  I was going to try to scratch-build it. I have several additional photos of that forklift (but they were really hard to find).  If you are interested, I can give you all the research info I have.

If you want to PM me some additional pictures or research, I'd be more than happy to take a look at it. If you know even some basic dimensions (like wheel diameter/ footprint) those would be super helpful as well, as usually the hard part of modeling freehand is not having a baseline to compared and scale to.

The only thing is no guarantees that it'll be finished that soon because it is a relatively complex model compared to simple detail parts and because  I'm in school right now, I'll only be working on it in my free time.

Already got it started Pete. I was working on this for Lowell Smith's FT but decided it was going to be to difficult to cast in resin.

My exhaust silencers and SP details arrived today.  First time with FUDishness. 1.) Clean with Bestine?  2.) ACC for adhesive? Thanks for making these parts!

Hi Spades,

Yes, I would recommend soaking the parts in Bestine overnight to remove all traces of waxy residue and then remove and let dry. ACC should work no problem. I'd love to see some pictures once you have them cleaned.

If you have links to pictures of the GP silencer or which specific type of duct you are looking for (or even better some basic measurements), I could take a look at making them.
