I am not sure if there is some sort of programmer box you can add into your DC system to do this.  I think Broadway Limited has something for their locomotives, not sure if it works with anything else.  Other than that, basically, no.

I think that the BLI box is only to change the DCC address. It will not change other CVs.  So the only way to customize settings would be to find someone with a DCC system.

Anyone with DCC anywhere within 50 miles of Bethel, CT???? Willing to send it to someone from here who I know, too. I doubt Bmann would do it for me. :(

What's all this sunshine and flowers? :? Where's the ranting and raving? :x There must be a rivet line or boiler contour off somewhere on this loco to warrant a firestorm of criticism!
No matter what our opinions, I think we can all agree that nobody on this site no longer has to use as sig line or lament about "wanting a K4":.
Unless of course it becomes "wanting a better than the Bachmann K4". Sigh.

just need to have a few answers to some questions
do not wish to hijack thread or take it in a different direction
in response to @bbussey and the information he graciously
provide (thank you!):
1. am I correct in understanding that the sound in K4 is operational in DC (not just DCC)?
2. if that is correct, am I understanding correctly that in DC all settings are to a default and can only be changed on a programming track using DCC?
3. any suggestions, be all this correct, on how one approaches a LHS to use their programming track? I did not purchase my 2 K-4s @ a LHS
as they were quoting a much higher price than the ~250.00 that included shipping
thanks in advance to any information
sincerely--
Gary

p.s.: I am more than delighted with my K-4s!

1.  Yes.
2.  Yes, or with a program/device that allows you to change the settings on a decoder, such as the Digitrax PR3.
3.  Good question.  Better to find a DCC-equipped friend or use a computer interface.

I'm curious as to why you would write a post like this?

@bbussey thanks for the information
it is truly appreciated
while I am DC right now
the inevitable has dawned
there will be a need soon to enter in DCC
so the purchase of a Digitrax PR3 would make sense
and since that item has been update to a new unit
by Digitrax it seems that computer interface via USB
will be possible for programming and updating
again, thanks!

sincerely--

So, to get back to my comment about traction tires, IF anyone has one can you confirm that there are traction tires on this unit.

Thanks

Or for about $140 you can buy a complete DCC system with full functionality and expandability.  A DCC system with is easy ande very intuitive to use (unlike Digitrax).  Which one? NCE's PowerCab.  Similar problem to yours (running in DC wanting to reprogram decoder settigns) was discussed in https://www.therailwire.net/forum/index.php?topic=35255.msg413316#msg413316 .   Plus it will give yo a chance to get your feet wet using DCC.

If you haven't figured it out yet, I'm not a fan of Digitrax (and take every opportunity to show that).  :)  I am forced to use Digitrax in the NTRAK club I'm in and on a friends layout and I cringe every time I have to do anything else then just drive my train with a pre-programmed throttle.  Even their manuals aren't very helpful.
