wow sometimes you guys say things I had not considered.

Third shouldn't it be  Pete de Snarkski?

Not at all Victor!  The more "skis" the better!  :D  Besides, when you pronounce it, "Peteski de Snarkski" sounds better and has a smoother flow than just "Pete de Snarkski".  Try it. And that Peteski is pronounced as peete-ski.

However, the valve gear, big driver flanges and driver spacing are tough things to correct.  A new K4 really is
in order for today's market.

Max, the other bad thing about the Minitrix K4 is that it has not been produced for probably 20 years.  So, it is not like it can be picked up at some hobby shop.

You can do very nice things with a Minitrix K4, but it remains a 40 year old locomotive with a shell stretched to fit a german pacific. For me the MRSP of $400 is high, but when I see at several places a price of $230-240, I think it's a fair price for a new locomotive with new tooling. Especially when I compare this with new N scale steam loco's in shops here in europe which costs 225 to 275 Euro (=$250 to $300). Those steamers don't have Sound or DCC and have in many cases a very nice 3 pole motor instead of the 5 pole motor in American loco's.

I think the best advice is that if you don't like it, don't buy. :D.

And that Peteski is pronounced as peete-ski.

Oh, but all this time I'd been reading it as "pesky..."  LOL   :D

Whatever floats your boat or moves your train...  :D  I also can see many valid situations where it could be pronounced your way.  ;)

after my last post on this thread...
I decided I had an axe to grind and hone to a keen edge

and I wondered why...

I have a ... variety of confession to make.
I have never put the hvy-mtn or the 2-10-2 back together after I pulled them open.

why reassemble a project/kit when you know you will have to do that anyway?
this next step is a little tricky... in that I think I paid a high price for a kit.
I am a little unhappy there... here is the building resentment
I have purchased a J, a hvy-mtn, a 2-10-2 and a berk and they are all kits.
the last one was the icing on the cake.
I am so completely tired of being teased into paying far more for the last three
then they are worth.  I resent how I have been treated.
:-)  so not b-mann now has a resentful customer.

my plan was to await steep discounts for whatever b-mann makes.
... still my plan... an they make a loco I want.

oooooooooooOOooooo.

so for now I am leaving this subject.

I await Kato's version.  it may be a while.

Dr. Dave happens to be TRW's Global Moderator (what a fancy title), so he is allowed a bit more leeway than an average TRW member.  :)  But I really don't care what you call me - words don't hurt much unless you start bad mouthing Kato!  Then those become fightin' words!  Just kiddin' of course.

My last name ends with "KY." When spelling my name on the phone, I often get the "was that K-I?" My typical response is "no, K-Y. Like the jelly."
Josh Surkosky

Here's a Clerihew about Ed. K.

Ed Kapucinski
Every night, he plants a new tree.
But mention his law
and you've pulled your last straw!

Alternate version:
Ed Kapucinski
Every night, he plants a new tree.
He asks excitedly "Did you say Ménage à Trois?"
No, I said "Ed's Law."
