The September-October N-Scale (back page) and N Scale Railroading (page 13) have ads showing test castings of a LW Baggage-Express "Coming Soon"!  Has there been an announcement or prior discussion of these that I have missed?

Well...... I guess the cat is out of the bag..... not nearly as earth shattering as a K4 but we are pleased to bring out a 73' smooth side express baggage car with some interesting twists.... Two body styles will be offered; a standard car and a end door version. Cars will come with either four wheel trucks (inside or outside swinghanger, as appropriate and an all new Commonwealth style 6 wheel truck not previously available in N scale.

A selection of roadnames will be available, four road numbers of each including NYC, PC, ONR, CN, Central of Georgia and many others.

Test casting will be shown at Portland next week and full detail will be announced.

More head end is always ok..... with me anyway.
Model railroading isn't saving my life, but it's providing me moments of joy not normally associated with my current situation..... Train are good!

Sneak peaks?  Hints on prototype #s or classes?

I would expect that the car will be popular with CN modelers- the only CN cars I can think of are the WoT cars, which (from comparing mine to photos are close, but I am guessing not really precise scale models of CN cars).

First end door car out there, AFAIK, so that one should be pretty popular just based on that feature- as it could be combined with available sides to make end door cars for a lot of roads.

And the more car styles, the better.  The one thing that mail and express trains had in common was the lack of uniformity.

As a personal favor, please don't deliver on the same day the MT single window coach arrives.

Our friend Puddington said something about end doors- so I think it might be this-
http://algomacentral.railfan.net/images/AlgoCenRy/AC_308_Steelton_9_11_1983.jpg

which according to the Jerry's Passenger Car Photo site is ex CN 9228 (which CN renumbered to 9600 at some point)

CN had a ton of cars that were similar-identical to that car, but without the end doors as well.

More baggage and express cars are always welcome. Wonder whether the NYC car(s) will be TTG or solid gray?  Whatever, I am interested in all the color schemes as these cars roamed.......

Oh great!  Now that I've accumulated enough Walthers baggage cars (at a blowout price) for the American Freedom Train I will be modeling, you come out with a more accurate car for probably 3x the price!  Thanks a lot Rapido!

Now I'll have to decide if the accuracy trumps cost of the new cars, or do I just stick with Walthers.  :|

Well; it's a decent starting point for a bash or, for some percentage of modellers, close enough.... at least it has an end door.... :D

You can count me in, especially if you have some UP.  They had baggage cars with 6 wheel trucks, so this is great news. I will probably get some extra six wheel trucks if they will fit some of my existing cars. WOW, great news!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bruce - the UP 6 axle cars were 85' long and disc brake.  Kato has the Union Pacific Prototype baggers covered.

This Rapido car fills a large gap in many ways.

I also am hoping for CB&Q in silver, shadow lined, and Pullman Green - they could also do GN green and orange, as well as Northern Pacific as all these cars had the double doors at one end.

Puddington - I sent you a PM earlier today about another Rapido topic.

Thanks!
