OK I am starting this thread because I just want to see your projects either in progress or completely done, this is for you guys that don't want to worry about doing a whole thread on step by step just for one locomotive or railcar or whatever.
That and I live in the Show Me State... So...
Show me!

So I'll start with my most recent Project!

Ok so I decided to detail one of my NS SD60's
Added grab irons that I bent myself, that wasn't fun, and they will not be perfect either...
Also made my own firecracker antennas and relocated the horn to the long hood.
There are now MU hoses/cable... So yeah... Enjoy!
Any blemishes will most likely be hidden after I weather this thing... I hope...  :-X











(I hope this style thread is cool with admins/mods....)

My one and only detailed & weathered loco - getting on to 5 years old now…



I'm waiting for Ed to finish his handrail project before I do any more.   :lol:

Just the opposite I'm afraid. The problem with using pure black is that it hides almost everything. If your model has any blemishes, weathering is going to highlight them. Notice Ednadolski's beautiful NS loco pic below. The only reason you can see all the fine detail is the weathering, and (correct me if I'm wrong here) it's possible that he lightened up the black before applying.

I use pure black to make things disappear. In illustration and painting, black is used to show a void.

Yep. Found that out the hard way... Shell was completely ruined after the dulcote started orange peeling...
So its in a bath... All that work for nothing...
Its like not even my first rodeo either that's the worst part...  :facepalm:

Actually that's all the factory paint.  My thought was that  black & white should be easy to match with touch-up paint in the areas where I shaved off the molded-on grabirons.

The touch-ups are fairly well hidden by the weathering on BNSF 6864.  That model is actually a lot more grimy than it looks in that pic, which was taken under a very bright sun.

The BNSF 5383 and 4710 are custom painted, so not worry there about matching factory paint.

I think if Nscaler711 simply lightened up his images, they would show better. This was done in Photoshop.

Sure, but now the image is washed out, how my photos look, is about how I see them in real life.


That and I believe editing photos takes the fun out of photography....
