As a civil engineer I could tell you many things, but Wikipedia knows best: see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moveable_bridge
In railroads the most used types are bascule bridges, vertical lift bridges and (mainly older) swing bridges.

I don't believe I have ever seen any kits for actual operating bridges in N scale (or any scale). A swing bridges might be the easiest to build, since it's basically a turntable that rotates 90°. A bascule bridge could be made with some sort of under table motor, much like you operate a semaphore signal, but a lot heavier. This type of bridge seems more difficult to engineer.

Model Power used to sell a motorized Rolling bascule bridge in N scale but it was somewhat toy-like.  I suspect that (like many other Model Power items) it was made by Pola.

I grew up, and now live again, in the land of railroads and waterways....we have multiples of all three of the major types!: lift, bascule, and swing bridges.
I'd have to agree that the swing type would be the easiest of the three to model as a working. moveable bridge.

Plastruct has offered a n-scale kit of the Mantua Creek swing bridge [built in 1888] that existed until 2012 in Paulsboro NJ. The HO version of this kit is still available.

If you are going to model the Mantua Creek bridge you also need 4 tank cars to place in the water and 3 more cars that derailed on both sides of the bridge. (See my December 3rd, 2012 blog post: http://rickb773-prsl.blogspot.com/2012/12/the-paulsboro-incident.html ).

Here is a picture of the Model Power N Scale Roller Lift Bridge which I found in my stack of kits I never got around to building and now have no room for! It certainly looked interesting at the time.

The Model Power bridge is currently available from Faller. I've built it, I was quite pleased with it 10 or so years ago.

Ah Faller not Pola.  I know it was one of the German companies.

The N scale ones most recently sold on eBay were marketed by AHM.

They were originally made by Pola, sold as Pola, AHM and may be by others including Model Power. A lot of Pola kits were copied by Model Power and made in China.
Pola is now part of Faller and would be marketed by Faller

Ah, thanks for clarifying this. We live in the age of mergers and acquisitions!  :D

I also didn't know that MP actually copied Pola kits - I always thought that they just subcontracted Pola to make their kits then they packaged them in MP boxes.  But I did know that MP made copies in China of the Lima (or was it Rivarossi) heavyweight cars and of the Minitrix corrugated passenger cars. So it does make sense that they did the same to their structure kits.

I think I like the idea of a Tower lift Bridge. The Bridge is on a double Main line and needs to allow for Barge and tug traffic. If any one wants to design one I plan to have it span the length of two kato plate deck bridges 352mm in total

Ah, why didn't you say you wanted to start small?  :D ;)
