GP7/9 Winterization Hatch and Leslie 5-chime Horn

Working on an N-scale WM GP, I'll need a winterization hatch and a Leslie S5T horn -- anyone know of a source?  Shapeways?

(Found a hatch by Miniatures by Eric after OP, but if there are other sources would be interested to know).

The Min by Eric winter hatch is probably the nicest I've used, though it is a little too long, which is easily fixed with a file.I have some of the Sunrise ones, which are hard or impossible to find, I still prefer the MbyE part....The SD-24 hatch is not the same, it's made to fit a 48" fan....

I've been considering lobbying Cutting Edge Scale models to make some through Shapeways(and some steam generator pieces)...a sprue of 6 would fill my needs for a few years!..Nice mesh can be found in old coffee maker filters.....

BLMA might have the horn you seek....and they're very nice castings..

Here's the M by E GP hatch, as installed on a modified Atlas GP (CPR Passenger GP, roof mounted air tanks)

Model railroading isn't saving my life, but it's providing me moments of joy not normally associated with my current situation..... Train are good!

Thanks for the input guys, I've parts on the way.  In the meantime, here's a photo of the test handrails from James' Train Parts.  I have them held in place temporarily with Kristal Klear to test fit.  These are the formed steel stanchion type.  The handrail itself should be "rounded" a bit with paint (I'm going to brush paint it intentionally a little heavy to give it more depth.   I was hoping for a little thinner, but not sure they'd hold up  if they were thinner.

Totally concur.  I like the MbyE hatch.  The mesh that comes with it is nice, as well.  It's well casted.

The BLMA horns are awesome as well.

Thought I'd try my hand at a GP7 /9 Winterization Hatch :D

If anyone wants to give me exterior dimensions of the box, and dimensions desired for the fan opening, I'd be happy to make some quick changes to make it as accurate as possible. Current dimensions for the box LWH are 9 x 7 x 2 mm

First off, thanks for trying these out!..

Not knowing any of the sizes needed, or how big these are, they look pretty good!.....The winterization hatch looks a little too tall is the only thing I see that looks "off", and not by much....

I will dig out my GP-7 this weekend and measure it....

The steam generator dimensions are based off of some brass detail parts I had laying around, they're approximately the same size in diameter and height compared to a GP7/9 and E8 steam generator.

I think these look great, if I feel the winterization hatch is too tall, I could always sand it down...I am not sure, but I think the "can" part, not the "stack" part, for the steam genny had screen around it, usually, at least the detail parts I have seem to show that....And I have dug up a great pic just yet!

I've since lowered the hatch by 0.5 mm and I think it proportions out a little better overall.

You are correct about the can part of the steam generator having a screen around it, similar to:

However with the limitations of 3D printing I'm not sure that a mesh made with the minimum printing requirements would look that good. I think for this, either a brass mesh strip or some type of tea bag mesh might fit the bill a little better.

I agree...Maybe a slight inset to make the screen flush when added is why I brought it up...

The hatch does look about right as well. Thanks for doing this!

Revised for more depth and an inset ring for mounting mesh.  :)
