On topic, BART cars have their car numbers on the roof. They're there so that the tower operator can tell which cars he's moving while he's playing with the world's largest train set.

Prototype almost , for the card system . So how long till N Scale freight cars can be RFIDed with all the card system info and displayed on a cell , computer , or reader of some sort ? Signal bridges or up shot between the tie scanners can keep the train list updated  .

I am busy with the last touches prior to Vanrail, the bi-annual operations invitational about these parts which will begin in 6 weeks. (yikes!)

To that end I am trying to finish the ballasting around Castlegar and held the final C&W op session we have time to fit in...

...and added a bunch more trees around the Kettle River bridge.



Finally I copied a technique from local modeller Ken Caitlan and quickly put in brown paper scenery on the as yet unscenic'd  Kaslo sub.  For the 2 hours it took it make a huge difference.

Given the National is around the corner, and we are off for 2 weeks on vacation tomorrow, I think I will just about have enough time to fix all the stuff that came out of the session last night as well as finish the ballasting before it is time to re-stage for Vanrail.  Ah well, nothing like a bit of pressure for motivation!

Actually no, it is a Classic Metal Works car right out of the box.  Perfectly matched factory paint from a car in my neighborhood.  I guess I should add a visor.  That is the only difference.

With the purchase of a Chopper II and a pile of styrene, I continued on with the scratchbuilding of a highway bridge.  I finished the first two of a total of eight sections of railing.



This is the look I'm trying to achieve.  If successful, this will be a unique bridge and not just another Rix version:

@mark dance I've seen the paper trick work before as an alternative to the cardboard strip and plaster cloth method for smooth landforms.  In your case, it takes on a great looking rock appearance.  Really clever!
