What am I missing here? Kato did a GS-4...

Since we're on the subject of 4-8-4's, how about either the Four Aces, (which could be modified, I'm sure, to resemble some roads such as Rock Island's "R" (?) class, the largest fleet of Northerns in the US), or how about the C&NW class H.

Just spit-balling here...

Hell yea, I'd buy an A1.

I guess the SD28-2. HO tooling, and of course, I kit bashed a few SD40-2 shells to paint into IHB recently.....

Are you talking about the Kato HO SD-38?  I was thinking that would make the most sense.  It sold pretty well in HO.

I'd love a EJ&E set of SD 38s.

Why not a Hudson?

No one is producing one at the moment.  Kato actually built one for ConCor many years ago, and has a 4-6-4 wheel arrangement chassis for the Japanese market that at least gives them a basis for a more modern mechanism of that wheel arrangement.  And they can then produce the inevitable slew of passenger cars to make a complete consist of any number of NYC's premier passenger trains.

And then I could gobble up a couple and re-letter them for the NKP :D

But . . . not likely, given that they are already committed to a new run of the FEF.   It seems as though Kato is a "one steamer at a time" kind of player.  And it's not a Western prototype.   Still . . .

Thing I find odd for them doing an SDP45 is that they already have the majority of the parts to do an SDP40.

Take the SD40/45 frame, SD45 sill and handrails, and cab from the SD40, all you need to do is tool up a hood.

Much of the hood is reusable.  All it really needs is a new section behind the radiators.  New tooling, yes, but the plans are probably all digital, so changes would be simple.

I kitbashed one exactly the way Ike suggested, using a leftover SD40 cab and hood, and it turned out respectable, if not contest-winning.  The body was left from repowering a W&R brass F45, so when the Kato SD45 came out, and I ended up with an extra undecorated, it was a logical project.

I thought everybody knew Kato is re-running the FEF/excursion train set just in time for Xmas 2015. However I've heard they won't change the names and numbers from the first set.
Actually I would have liked a re-run COLA but oh well...

SDP45?

We need an SDP40F. That would fit into all that Amtrak stuff they have, e.g. the Amtrak El Capitan. They don't have a loco to pull their Amtrak El Capitan.

Even an SDP40 would have been better. It could have pulled the Empire Builder... sort of. Or the combined Empire Builder/North Coast Limited. (Yeah! I am still hoping.)

Yea it does, thank you, ho hum, another run of the exactly same loco and cars...
I'd much rather see the original version, of which there were many,  rather than the one excursion loco, of which there was/is? just one. But hey, that's just me....
I hope they don't saturate the market to the point that the original version never materializes...

I'll second that.  In Santa Fe, too.

You can't use the SD40/45 frame for a SDP45 - the frame is longer on the SDP45. The frame might be the same one that EMD used for the SD40T-2 and SD45T-2.

But yeah, they could do the SDP40 (in theory).

 :)
   SDP45 had a 70'8" Frame,same as the SD45X,and some later SDs.
about 5' longer than the SD40/45 series, how about an Sd38 or
  SD39 on the regular SD40/45 frame ?

My parts list was for an SDP40, not the 45, basically why the SDP40 seems more logical than a 45.
