That'll be a cool set but it's a swing-and-a-miss for me.  Just as well as it looks like it might be an expensive year for Legos.  :)

Very cool about the two new cars being tooled! 8)

Hopefully Kato will release some other phase 1 stuff for the many other trains that were pulled in Phase one regalia. 8)

How many of those cars are good for the 1980s if and when Kato releases them in Amtrak's Phase III paint?

Thanks in advance,

Right after @bbussey finally finds his Pacific series sleeper, another run is announced.  Thanks Bryan!

The Santa Fe Pine series car is a great addition along side the Indian cars.  If Kato made a full dome, and maybe one of the lunch-counter or lounge cars, Santa Fe fans would have nothing left to want!  Great stuff.

Yeah, I was told last week this was coming in the summer when I called my contacts to see if they had any Pacific cars laying around.  They needed some consists to run with the new engines.  The Pacific class wore a number of schemes including Phase III.  Kato I believe is doing the Phase I scheme (so that they don't have to modify the tooling), so I'll be decorating mine in Phase III.

Just off the top of my head-

1937 Budd Superchief with E1s
Hudson that runs and looks as good as the FEF
Northern that runs and looks as good as the FEF
Budd diner that doesn't come off a Zephyr
Any SF heavyweight with SEAC

Do I need to go on?

And yes, I will buy all 3 of the cars the poster mentioned, assuming they are more or less correct for the 1950s (ie- not remodeled for Amtrak or Auto Train)

Should have said this era of streamliners. Sure there's a lot that's not made for earlier eras, but the 1960's decade is almost complete as far as named trains go.

Mike, agreed on the Pines, a great addition, and I sure hope they will be  available separately, but the the "Indian" car I want and need is the original 24 duplex roomette, with its unique staggered windows. Kato is apparently doing the post-'64 rebuilt version, with 11 double bedrooms as ran on the latter day Super. So us Santa Fe guys still have stuff we want (we're just not a whiney about it as some big eastern road's fans :D)

Wow, that's exactly the train I was hoping for.

Too bad its inaccurate.  By the Amtrak era coaches dominated Amtrak consists not sleeper cars.

Kato is marketing this as an add on to the El Cap and SDP40-2, that going to be a long train if you use all the cars together.
Which ever side of the track I am on is the right side.

Hmm, so the Pine series car will be new tooling with late era trucks and now skirts, rather than a re-run of Kato's previous Pine model?

Who said that?

(For those wondering, the previous model is CB&Q based but pretty dang accurate above the skirts.)

Not inaccurate when paired with the previously released Amtrak El Cap cars. Also, even if it was, I don't care what story the American office had to tell Japan... We got two new pieces to the Santa Fe puzzle out of it, and some great early Amtrak!

The Pullman diner #8070 — is that the Super Chief diner model?  The new Budd 10-6 Pine cars are of definite interest to me, if they are painted in Amtrak colors.  If it proves too difficult to procure one, the ATSF two-car set is a good fallback.

UPDATE — never mind, I found that it is a former Super Chief diner.

I won't be buying the passenger set, as I don't need most of the cars for my Empire Builder.  However, if the Pine-series car is available separately, I would buy that.  Pine Rapids, at least, went through Pasco, in Amtrak Ph I paint no less, so I can certainly use it.

:|    That was a long train. My dad and I rode on it when Amquack (Track) was offering USA Rail Passes. The train was still basically the combined Hi Level El Cap and Pooper (Super) Chief. We were in the sleeper section, but walked forward to have lunch in the Hi Level Diner. The equipment by then was all painted in Phase I. We traveled  LA to Chicago one way only as part of our two week around the country Rail Pass trip, returning on the Northern Route on the soon to be discontinued North Coast Hiawatha, that ran on the old NP route. There was no Salt Lake to LA through Las Vegas Desert Wind yet so we had to fly to Los Angeles to begin our trip. I sure hope the Pine series ten and six car really is new tooling, because if they used the UP Pacific Series car there are differences especially the skirting on the Pacific series versus skirting on most Pine cars. Amquack (Track)

Nate, you keep inserting a "c" in Amtrak. There isn't a "c" in that name.  That is why NTRAK also doesn't have a "C" - it was named after Amtrak.  ;)
