Since Alps printers print gold ink I have been planning on making some older logo decals for myself. Just one of those projects I have had on a back burner for a while.  The 80s and older logo (line-art package and a bow) will be a piece of cake, but the one which includes a partial globe will be a challenge as Alps dose not do deal well with the lighter brown color in that logo.  The gold part is no problem though.  I just have to sit down and do the artwork.

The UPS-style Trailers from TWX got me excited for a while and I bought bunch of them, but with so many projects I have not revisited the UPS logo project.

Waiting for Chuck to post his pre-order page, but I'm going to start with 6 of each trailer, so roughly $200.  I'll save the cabs for later.  I don't really have a road system planned yet, so no real need for them.  I'm sure this will be the first of many trailers I'll be buying from Pat in the months to come.  Might be time to get some more spine cars too (and to put a TTRX spine set on my top-5 freight car list).

At least this is cheaper than the BLMA crude oil train I pre-ordered a while back.  (And no telling what I'll be pre-ordering with the next BLMA announcement on Wednesday.)

Still, the detail on these models is astounding! And I DID buy the "Duel" rig.

It's time like this that I'm glad I have no interest in intermodal modeling.  I have a drop frame trailer from Trainwork and the 53' trailer(s) from DigCom Designs, so I will be in for one each of the tractors, maybe 2 of the day cab duel axle.

and give us some modern construction vehicles, light trucks and cars?   Pretty happy of course with Trainworx and
Showcase these days of course, but we are so far behind in this area.

Passenger cars and construction equipment are very difficult to produce due to all the licensing involved. Kenworth and Peterbilt are both owned by PACCAR, and are relatively model friendly. UPS must have been a real challenge, and you know those movie trucks flew WAY under the radar.

Ford is the easiest to work with, and costs are not insurmountable. I heard Toyota is also very good for licensing, but then you run into the problem of charging $25 for two 94 burgundy Camrys. Will it sell? That's a really tough thing to figure out. I would, but I think I am in the extreme minority here. Also, American manufacturer are more likely to want to model American products.

Construction equipment is a different story. Komatsu is very well represented. CAT is like UPS, finicky and prone to signing exclusive deals. Think Norscot. Older companies like Michigan and Allis Chalmers would be easy as the companies are gone out IP and trademarks have expired. I would love a Case backhoe with an enclosed cab, but Case was bought by New Holland, and they were bought by Fiat. And they are problematic to work with.

This leaves Shapeways. And I will post a lot more on this later. I have been a critic of rapid prototype models since the Make My Model days. The new Extreme Frosted Detail is so good that I have purchased over $500 on the last two months.
